EARLY ACCESS: The Writers Strike: Does Anyone Care in 2023?

VIDEO LINK: https://youtu.be/xlJxO28WHOA

Hey everyone, it's Early Access Day, and this weekend's video is a little longer than my regular ones, so let's not waste any time with this part... just go enjoy!

Buckley looks at a number of stories surrounding the 2023 Writers Strike, including Aaron Paul's claims that he has never seen a dime from Netflix for Breaking Bad, and Bill Maher & Drew Barrymore's failed attempts to bring their shows back during the strike. It's been a little over 15 years since the last strike, and we have to ask the question: will it have the same impact as it did back then? Or is this generation not nearly as dependent on, or sympathetic to, "professional" content creators?

I never thought about it like that.

I'd like to add a small detail about being a writer (or other person working in TV and whatnot) is the unpredictability. If your show ends or is cancelled, or when your movie is done, who knows when your next project/paycheck is. Residuals and such are important to keep afloat in the mean time. Or another way to look at is is that they need more salary when they are working to support them when they aren't.

fun fact: I suggested this in the Youtube comments section and somebody jumped on me calling me a guerrilla advertising bot lmao

Yo Buckley, idk if you've seen it but a youtuber named Drew Gooden has a pretty good video on this topic called "The Future Of TV Is Bleak". Obviously it's up to you if you're interested enough to watch it but I think he really hits the nail on the head. He talks about a couple of the reasons for the strike other than pay too, and goes a little more in depth on the effects of the 2007 strike.
