I think the “nicer” interpretation stems from the whole “separating kids from their families at the border if they’re illegal immigrants” saga that happened.

"they should stop worrying about who's fucking which kid and help people out who are working their ass off here". I don't see how you'd take that line any *other* way. What's the initial meaning you're saying it might be instead of this?
