For new Patrons, basically every month (or three) I post one of these. Feel free to ask me whatever... maybe you'd like to hear my opinion on an older topic I never covered, maybe you'd like to know who I think would win in a fight between MrBeast and LA Beast (LA Beast), maybe you have some oddly specific question about an old video of mine, maybe you want me to validate your feelings on a movie/show/book/video game you like by telling you I like it too. Just leave 'em here, and I'll answer them!
Also, I'm always taking questions for "Advice Patreon Asked For", so if you'd like to private message those to me, just please keep 'em relatively short (150 - 250 words? About a minute, minute and a half), and something not TOO serious. We're here to have fun, not ruin anyone's life.

Dead: I'd like to see if Napoleon could hold his own in a fight without an army. It's believed he was actually somewhere around 5'6", so I think that'd be fair, but they were built pretty tough back then, he might get the better of me. Fictional: Ippo from Hajime No Ippo. We're both about the same size when we fought. He'd probably demolish me though.

I think that we can't give politicians too much credit for anything they do, to be honest. Sometimes I think they just do things to make it look like they're doing something. Find a hot button non-issue, be real public about their decision... Justify their existence.

2023-05-21 17:45:08 +0000 UTCThis is more of a random thought than a question but… in your video about tipping, you mention that the average person today (in the developed world, at least) has the luxury of ordering other people to make food and drink in the exact way they desire, something that only royalty and people of high social status could have in the past. I think the main difference is that, back then, the nobility could command people to do those things for free. We can command people, but we have to pay for that service. It’s really more of a testament to post-industrial living where technology and society has progressed so much to where there is an infrastructure and human capital where people’s profession is centred around providing a service for others in exchange for money. Also, with that thing about Montana’s bill banning TikTok, what do you think the purpose of it actually was? The people who voted in favour for it must’ve known that it couldn’t be enforced. I know people like to say things like “oh all them politicians are some old fucks who don’t understand technology”, but surely that’s more of a stereotype than an accurate evaluation of politicians. I’m sure they’re all at least in touch with people who know about technology and can inform them of things like this. Do you think there’s some sort of long game chess-like strategy going on here? Maybe they want to get it shot down by the courts so they can take it up to the Supreme Court?

I think a lot of people DON'T know my feelings on guns, because I think a lot of people think I'm an all-or-nothing guy the subject. But I have no issue with a gun being owned for sport, for hunting, etc. My stance was always "It'd be nice if it was a little harder to get one", which got turned into "Buckley's a lib who thinks guns should be banned!" I don't talk to them REGULARLY, but I am friends on Facebook with my old carny boss, and the one guy I worked with was my friend growing up, we still talk every now and then.

Not that it was convincing to begin with, but Jason gets harder and harder to do every year, as he's supposed to be a perpetually 16-year-old YouTuber, and I'm... very much not 16 any more. Think I might need some Just For Men if I want to play that character again. But if I did, it'd likely be only for Patreon exclusives, the main channel pretty much NEVER clicks on things that I physically appear in.

The rest are just the usual stuff... someone wants me to advertise chef knives or a glowing thing that projects "stars" onto your ceiling so it feels like you're outside or whatever other junk that every YouTuber's already selling because they don't care. As for getting sucked in, no... I did ONE sponsored thing one time years ago with a company called "Feedbands" because it seemed like something my audience might actually like. That company is no longer in business. But I did get paid for it, it wasn't a ton but at the time it was certainly more than I'd made "doing YouTube" (although Nerd Rants: Series 1 actually sold alright too). 2. That may be a video at some point, I've considered doing (another?) making of video. I BELIEVE I did a Live Twitch stream years ago, I made a video live in about 4 or so hours (back when my videos were shorter, obviously). But the process might be a little lengthy to go over in a comment on Patreon. The super short version is: I find a topic I think would be funny to talk about, I write a script, I read that script into a mic, I edit the audio, then I make the visuals, put it all together, and I got a video.

And then in my teens I became a computer nerd and wanted to make video games, except turns out that's way harder than it looks. I'll see what's charting every now and then and have a listen to a few songs, some of them I hear on the radio or at my boxing club (the teens will throw their playlist on from Spotify and I'll hear a song and go "wow, this is what they like huh? Jesus...") I used to have a rule that I had to hear a song "in the wild" before it could qualify, but nowadays with how music becomes popular (first it becomes a hit on TikTok, then people play it non-stop on Spotify, THEN it starts getting radio play and ending up in ads and stuff) I've bent that rule a little.

Like, if I ever "retire", first thing I'll do is get rid of Twitter. Never look at it again. Everyone on there is horrible. The best? I mean, getting to make YouTube videos for a living, even if this doesn't last for a LONG time, has been a really cool experience. It's nice not having to get up every day and drive to a job I don't really like to work for people who don't really care about me.

2023-05-10 13:10:33 +0000 UTCI mean, certainly there's a bit of a "push" to make sure I'm always thinking about my next video, as well as what people might like to hear me talk about, that sort of thing... but overall, I definitely enjoy the process of writing and "performing" the videos as much as I did when I first started, certainly this process has maybe given me some level of creative rejuvenation or I don't know what you might call it, but yeah... it comes with its own new types of stress, but overall I'm having fun.

But yeah, the first example that came to mind when you mentioned remakes that are super referential to the old material without really making something new was that new Velma show everyone has been saying is a disaster. They made a scooby doo show without scooby doo and just shit on the original with a bunch of spiteful referential/political humor. Adult scooby parodies have been done before and better on shows like Robot Chicken. I think that sums it up though, money makers with no real substance and spiteful towards the original because they lack the writing ability.

And yeah, sometimes a new iteration of an old show or movie is welcome if they do it right (I'm really looking forward to Clone High season 2) but some lean way too heavily on references to the old material without creating something new. And the Disney remakes are just... Unnecessary. Most of their animated works age pretty well and can be enjoyed by kids 30 years later, but... They keep making a billion dollars so Disney will keep making them.

But no I think the times I get REALLY angry sometimes adds to the comedy. Like "OH he's really lost it here, normally he's just sort of sarcastically seething but he's full on mad now!"

Like would Garfield have been better received if he was doing Sam Raimi's movies instead? I don't know. Overall Toby's the first one I got to see in theatres, so there's gonna be a little nostalgia effect there, even if some scenes now are a little cheesy... I don't think the Garfield movies are particularly bad, I think they suffer a little from the whole "Peter's parents" thing which... I've never met a comic reader who's like "oh that's my favorite part of Spidey lore, Richard and Mary's whole thing"... and obviously with the MCU ones, I think Tom Holland does a great job even though making him Iron Man's apprentice is... less than ideal, and the third one was kind of a little too much "hey Spider-verse did really well, let's capitalize on that".

Sometimes, yes, it will give me an idea of what videos will be more popular, like last week's video didn't get as many views in early access as my last two, and it didn't perform as well as my last two (the Masculinity one and the Bud Light one did better than the TikTok being banned one). But sometimes it doesn't exactly match up, and a video that didn't do great in early access performs really well with the rest of my audience, while a video that does really well in early access can sometimes not be that well recieved by everyone else

I think Garcia had to figure out a way around Tank's power if he wanted to win, and he just couldn't. He needed to keep him out, and he found out the hard way what happens when Tank gets in and can land that big shot.

2023-05-10 11:16:34 +0000 UTCQ1: No, I'm really not a fan of any RE or Survival Horror games. I don't find them enjoyable to play at all. Q2: In a way, yes. I keep a list going throughout the year. It's already got a few contenders on it, and some notes for jokes. Q3: I guess Hades 2 would probably be the game I'm looking forward to the most in 2023. And in 2024 we're supposed to get two Yakuza games (Yakuza 8, and a prologue game with a really long title). So that'll be fun for me!

I think the #1 issue is that people think things that AREN'T an issue are the #1 issue, you have so many people believing the "culture war" is a very real, very important thing, and when it spills out into real world violence it of course becomes an issue, but it's only that way because of what people are being fed online. None of it matters though...

I think they need to start figuring out how to deal with it, if it means hiring more people, or delaying games even more, or what. Imagine going to the movies, and there's just unfinished CGI and the scene skips and there's muted dialog and they just went "Welp... come back in two weeks and we'll have this finished, hey it takes a long time to make these things and we don't always get 'em right" how pissed would people be? OR, how quickly would people just accept "oh movies are more complicated than they used to be so deal with it"?

I'm not a huge Union guy as most people know, but if this gets them what they want, people can live without new TV for a few months (especially with all the streaming services now... There's gotta be something people haven't watched before... Try a show that's new to you, and then go "oh wow this is really good" and then understand that people wrote that and that's why it's so good)

2023-05-10 11:00:16 +0000 UTCThere are a few different reasons. I generally save the "bigger" topics for YouTube while saving the more... Hyper focused topics for Patreon exclusives. Although there have been times where I started writing a video as a Patreon exclusive and thought "this should be a full on weekend video", like I almost made the Bud Light one a Patreon video. And sometimes it goes the other way, I decide a video that was going to be a weekend video would be better as a Patreon exclusive. But sometimes it's also just "is there 8-10 minutes of material here? Or is this something I think would be really funny to talk about but it's really only 5 minutes of material". And that makes the decision for me.

There's this old anime called Panty and Stocking and it's supposedly finally getting a season 2. I implore you to give it a shot if you haven't (it's not porn, I promise. I won't say it's not lewd, but it's definately not porn), but how do you feel about all these revivals of old shows? A more western example is Futurama, and Matt Groening always wanted to do more with it. Then you have Disney puking out CGI remakes left and right. I think some are a good idea, others are soulless cash grabs. Also, was the character limit in the description because of ME? *bats eyes knowing I type essays instead of questions*
