Bonus #155 - Banksy vs Guess Clothing (Extra Dose)

VIDEO LINK: https://youtu.be/JZAFvBM-ReY

CHEAP PLUG BEFORE WE GET STARTED: There's a slot open in the "Signature Dose" tier this month, so if you'd like to upgrade to get a signed script of your choosing, one of you has a chance to do so!

Hey everyone, it's Bonus Dose Day! Sometimes I wonder if a story might be too old to do, like if I've missed my window of opportunity. Then I remember "my audience isn't as terminally online as I am, there's a very VERY good chance that a lot of the things I talk about, most of my audience hasn't ever heard about". And so, this is one of those stories I'd been kinda putting off but really wanted to do a video about. Enjoy!

Street artist Banksy, known for his street art, strange stunts, and bizarre sense of humor, was not laughing too hard when the clothing corporation "Guess" started selling his artwork on t-shirts without his knowledge. Buckley looks at Banksy's response, the actual company behind the "borrowing" of his art, and wonders how counter-culture it is to spend $50 for a t-shirt at Guess anyway?

Comments

Why would anyone want to spend that much on clothes that aren’t even endorsed by the artist?

Ben Jackson

The unfortunate thing is that people will fall for this, especially the target demographic of Guess clothing. This collection will make money and set a precedent for other companies to do the exact same thing.

DC Monster

Studied Banksy at University. Sucks to see such a cool message being commodified like this, but it’s hardly surprising.

I guess I must live under a rock then bc I had never heard of Banksy until watching this video

Miguel

Banksy should have just tagged the creative commons license under all his work. That would've prevented this whole drama. What a chump.
