EARLY ACCESS: Canada Wants To Help You Die?!

VIDEO LINK: https://youtu.be/VNeK5pTJiLE

It's the first (public) video of 2023, and we're comin' out of the gates with a pretty controversial topic! Well, controversial to Americans I guess, in Canada, over 82% of people either strongly or somewhat support the program that allows the terminally ill the right to choose when they check out, but I've been seeing a LOT of talk about Canada's "MAID" (Medical Assistance in Dying) program over the last two months. Twitter's intellectuals have been doing their usual thing, reading a headline or half a story and sharing their opinions, so I wanted to look at what people are getting right and what they're getting wrong about the program. Enjoy!

Buckley looks at the topic of "MAID", Canada's "Medical Assistance in Dying" program. A few stories have been making the rounds on Twitter, resulting in people claiming that "Canada is trying to kill all its poor people", but Buckley tells you the whole story (including the ones that, yes, may help prove some of these people's points) and explains the actual purpose of the program, the real statistics, and dispels a few rumors (like, "did you hear the one about the woman who just wanted a stairlift so they euthanized her?!")

We have no problem euthanizing a suffering, terminal pet, but doing that for a human?? Heathens! I will never understand that other than it makes the healthcare system more money in drugs and supplies to keep you alive.

One of the best endings to a video 😂

This reminds me of the health care, for v Wade and arguments of pro gun videos. Sometimes the political stuff makes for great content with some good jokes thrown in. Well done.

Glad for Canada :) some people can get awfully sensationalist about assisted dying and you've done a great job outlining the facts. Reminds me of the presentation I did in support of assisted dying in year 10 english class.. and thankfully, I think most normal people see it as a last resort for those who are suffering in agonising pain. I know this analogy sounds bad but it's acceptable to put dogs down 'for their own benefit' but humans..? except people actually have to consent to euthanasia (unlike dogs). I reckon some anti-euthanasia folks liken it to how we treat animals, and see themselves as better than; even and especially on a subconscious level.

Thanks. I think you can make jokes about pretty much any subject, it's all about how you do it. In this case, I'm not making fun of anyone who wants to use the system or anyone who's been told about the system... I'm making fun of the system itself. It's dark, but all we can do is laugh about these things, otherwise we just have to sit in the corner and weep.

Adam Buckley

The big C - I laughed so hard when that pic popped up.

1600 people died before they could die quicker. Good god that’s why I love you Buckley 😂 what a crazy and interesting yet touchy topic. What would we do without your commentary? Probably just read tweets. I shudder at the thought.

Awesome video

You get the people that say, “They should just get a job. It’s free!”, when here in the US you have to lay an income tax when you are employed. So you have to pay to have a job.

Jimmi Witherspoon

"Okay, but those jobs should pay well right?" "NO! JUST DON'T BUY ANYTHING THAT WILL BRING YOU JOY! INFLATION ISN'T REAL"

Emma Anderson

"Easy solution, let's just make sure there aren't any people so poor that they see this as the only way out" "NO! TELL EM TO GET JOBS!"

Adam Buckley

Very well done video again Buckley! This has become a constant debate at home with my family who think the program should be scrapped and how it'll just be used to kill poor people. Which I find ironic because often people who are worried about the program killing poor people are the same people who are against raising minimum wage or some sort of housing help or any assistance for those in need.
