Q&A - December 2022 (AND MORE!)

Hey everyone, so normally this is where I upload an Early Access video for this weekend, but I'm taking this weekend off. As mentioned earlier this week, I'm going to upload a video on Wednesday the 28th (and of course a Patreon exclusive on the 27th), then I will return to my regular schedule on January 7th. SO, I figured "why not do a Q&A, beg for some new "Advice Patreon Asked For" questions, and recap some of my favorite Patreon exclusive videos from the past 12 months?" So... feel free to post your questions in this thread, if you'd like to participate in an "Advice Patreon Asked For" video please Private Message me here on Patreon with your question, and check out the links below for some content you may have missed that I think are 10 of my best Patreon exclusives from 2022. Have a great Christmas or whatever you celebrate, and I'll be back with more fun on Tuesday!

Q&A - December 2022 (AND MORE!)

Unfortunately I don't remember this. I know I probably talked about Lena Dunham admitting she put stones in her sister whenthey were both children, like she wrote that in her book for some reason... but I don't recall a story about "fairy lights"

Adam Buckley

A little late but I seem to remember this really old video where you talk about a girl who was putting fairy lights... well... Up somewhere they weren't supposed to be, and her mom walked in the room and put an end to the insanity. It was a really funny video and I remember enjoying the boisterous way you read the story, but I can't find it anywhere, and I'm sure it was an "advice no one asked for" but I'm not positive and would understand why it would have been taken down. Just wondering if you remember this crazy video/story or if I just dreamt it up.

thefangirlotaku

Okay, gotcha. Love that take. Even as a cyclist I am annoyed by those who ride in the middle of the road. And the “takes more energy to start and stop” is such a pansy excuse😂😂 You’re cycling for a workout are you not??? Who the fuck is worried about taking more energy to stop and start. Thats part of the gig

camk1017

I'm just replying here. I'm not doing "Patreon goes Postal" anymore, because it was my least viewed Patreon exclusive and I think a lot of people felt it was a rip-off. A lot of my audience, even the ones who are hardcore enough that they'd come and subscribe to my Patreon, really don't want to listen to me unedited and off-script. On top of that, the people who DID watch it, some of them just skipped to their question and left. BUT, there are people who like to ask me questions, so this seems like an easy compromise (put up a Q&A thread and people can ask questions and read their answer). As for cyclists... I just find so many of them to be a nuisance. Maybe it's confirmation bias or whatever, maybe it's because there's so few of them that when you see one doing something awful you go "oh there's another one" as opposed to bad drivers which a) are expected anyway b) by percentage don't seem to really be as bad, and c) the roads are made for cars in North America, it is what it is... So, yeah, I just see so many cyclists who don't care about traffic laws or who only follow them when they're convenient, and then "Ohhh now it's convenient for me to be a pedestrian so I'll do what THEY do even though that's not expected behavior on a bike". Running stop signs and red lights, riding the wrong way on the street (or even in a bike lane), using a crosswalk instead of a left turn lane like a vehicle would, and then saying nonsense like "Well AKSHUALLY, it's safer for bikes to not stop at stop signs, AND it takes more energy to stop and start so it's much easier to coast through them" great, let me know when I smoke you in my car if that was easier. I don't know, maybe there's good ones. Unfortunately, they aren't here. EDIT: OH, and the ones who use the middle of the lane!? GET OUT OF THE ROAD! You stay on the SIDE of the road, and we'll share with you or go around you then. But don't be in the middle of the road. Just the worst.

Adam Buckley

Are you replying in the comments as well as using these questions in patreon goes postal? Or just replying in the comments? Also - my question originally was: Can you elaborate on your opinion that 90% of cyclists are entitled assholes who don’t follow traffic laws, or take up the road space? I am a cyclist myself and would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks!

camk1017

I don't know if I can truly pick favorites, but I will say my Roe v Wade video from this year is probably the one I'm most proud of and thought was really good, like it's one I'd send people and go "this is an example of what I'm doing now and I stand by it".

Adam Buckley

I don't think there are any I "phoned in" but because of the nature of my videos, there are definitely some now that don't really make much sense, or are super-dated, and so I guess I'd "delete" some of those just because they're clutter, if someone was looking through my old videos they might be turned off by bizarre topics like "people complaining about a Dexter toy" or whatever and go "what does this guy talk about? Who cares about this?"

Adam Buckley

Same with the other way round too, out of the 150,000 years that you've been perscribing these doses which one (or ones) would be your crown jewel(s)?

Numptaloid

Out of all the videos that you made over the years, which one did you think is your worst? (not including the early 2009-2010 period of growing pains) Or in other words if you could erase one video in your large catalouge of uploads which one would that be? Or is there several that you just think you really phoned in?

Numptaloid

I would absolutely consider it. I haven't really been offered any. I was on a "marketplace" for a little while where I could audition for roles, and I did end up doing a trailer for a kids show (really fitting) and a couple private corporate voice overs (stuff that would only play in their offices or at trade shows). But yeah I'd love to do voice over for TV, video games, etc... but it can be hard to break in. Much easier once you're already in there, but getting in is the really difficult part.

Adam Buckley

Yeah, on Patreon search "WWE" or "Wrestling" and you'll find a couple videos of me talking about it here I believe, including the link I included in this post (the people pretending to be WWE stars to scam people on Instagram)

Adam Buckley

Yeah, a few times. Most recently, BBNO$ (the artist behind the "Edamame" song) commented "LMAO" or something like that on my Autopsy of his song. The guy behind "Missio" made some comments that, looking back, seem like he took the whole thing in stride, we had a little back-and-forth that was fairly good-natured I think, and then of course there's the classic Hayley Williams claiming after the fact that "Actually I WAS singing to myself" when a fan shared the Worst Songs entry I did of her song ("Ain't it Fun" I think), and there was Manika who changed the name of her song after I called her out for "I Might Go Lesbian", the name was changed on YouTube to "I Might Go (Love A) Lesbian", which wasn't really any better, and she wrote like two paragraphs defending the song, very obviously directly making points against my Worst Song entry.

Adam Buckley

Have you ever gotten a reaction from an artist you've autopsied or included on a worst of list?

Michelle

Hey Buckley, great year as usual and always loving your content. Have you ever been offered small voice roles for animated projects or tv commercials? Would you ever consider doing it if it’s a solid script?

Frederic Rosier

solid pick vader one of the all time under rated performers RIP. Didn't know you liked wrestling like that appreciate the response love the patreon glad i subcribed

Austin

It's a difficult question... WW(F)E wrestler? I'd say Ted DiBiase. But my all time favorite wrestler is Vader. Thing is, they really didn't do much with him during his time in WWF, they really wasted him compared to how he was used in WCW, and then if you see any of his matches in Japan (especially against Mitsuharu Misawa) you can really see how they had no idea what to do with the guy. If you can find some of DiBiase and Stan Hansen's matches from AJPW as well, they're pretty solid too.

Adam Buckley

Hey Buckly just subscribed to the habbit thanks for still going and making videos been watching since 2013 probably. My question is and a hard hitting one. Who you're favorite WWE Wrestler of all time??

Austin

In order to try and avoid fights over copyright with them, I get them from various free stock image sites that are hopefully legit. Of course, any actual celebrity images and stuff, I use under fair use (showing a photo of a celebrity while I discuss them), and hopefully that'll never come back to bite me some day.

Adam Buckley

I'm more familiar with the Simpsons parody of this song (to the point where I actually don't know the actual lyric for the real song, and all I can think of is "THE GARBAGE MAN CAN!")

Adam Buckley

No, I've heard his name (and I think he's even subscribed to me) but I've never actually watched any of Bart Baker's stuff.

Adam Buckley

Who can take a sunrise and sprinkle it with dew?

Le Tired

Where do you find the images that you use on your slides? Or is it just through random internet searches?

Miguel

Also, I should have asked this earlier. Have you watched any of Bart Baker's parodies? (He did a lot of songs that made your annual worst lists.)

Sri

As for the Tates... helping disenfranchised young men by telling them to behave in a way that's potentially harmful to other people isn't "helping". From what I've seen, Andrew Tate is like Tom Cruise's character in Magnolia except real. It's hilarious in the movie because you think "no one would actually be like this" and then here we are.

Adam Buckley

The fact that I'd have to look that up suggests it's one example that doesn't really have any major relevance on the rest of society overall. Like, I don't know, did the "woke" movement get Gina Carano fired? Or did Gina get told by her employer to stop doing certain things on social media, and she didn't? Keeping in mind that they told Mando to delete something from his twitter too and he did (something calling the right "nazis").

Adam Buckley

I have to beg to differ about no-one taking them seriously. Could you please look up 'nazi pug case' and then you'll see what I mean? More of a UK thing but still relevant. As for Tate, I agree that that's essentially what he's doing, but can you really say it's grifting when you don't even know the basics of him I.e. he has a brother? Furthermore if it's helping people, is that a problem?

Isaac Lawrence

A Fire/Fighting Beaver, eh? I dig it

King Kryptonite

I had a Nike one about 10 years ago. I honestly don't think it did that good a job, I don't think it can truly know. I'm sure some are better now though, something using GPS to track distance for example is probably great, but anything just tracking "steps" by registering how you bounce when you walk is probably bullshit. As for giving my info to them... whatever. I'm not really that paranoid about any of that. Anyone who has a cellphone really shouldn't be. Whatever...

Adam Buckley

1 - Petite. Or... no I don't know another word for that. So yeah, that might give you an idea. If someone said a full sentence in French to me, I could not respond. 2 - Probably not too bad, we do have to learn it until Grade 9, but after that most people just stop giving a shit, while some people continue on. And it's a good language to know for some multilingual jobs. BUT, know that it's Canadian French. Our accents are HORRIBLE. I met a Belgian girl a few years ago who came to Canada for a few months to just spend time with family and live here for a bit, she got a job as a customer service agent and she said "the Quebec French is awful, it all sounds like they have colds, and the accent is like... Alabama English"

Adam Buckley

1: I don't know that a video game based on my channel would be very good... maybe it'd be a dating sim, where a guy has to choose from all these different girls, but each has a personality "flaw" that he has to try and see past (like one really likes bad pop music, one's a hardcore right-winger, one's a hardcore left-winger, one thinks Dane Cook is the funniest person alive... that sort of thing). 2: Well they'd have to be Fire type (angry), and Canadian... maybe something based on a Moose or Beaver? Maybe dual-type Fighting, with boxing gloves? A Beaver named "Damit" (like damn it or "dammit") with firey boxing gloves. 3: I kinda hate all Christmas movies. But Denis Leary and (uh ohh, can't say his name anymore) Kevin Spacey's "The Ref" was actually a favorite of mine for years. It's about a guy who basically takes this family hostage but the family is just about to have the inlaws over for Christmas, so the criminal has to pretend to be the family psychologist during dinner... kinda bad premise but Denis Leary was one of the very first "rant comedians" I ever heard, so... it's got a special place in the ol' collection.

Adam Buckley

Now? Absolutely would say no. When I was at my absolute most single? Maybe (although I did once basically say no, a very drunk/high girl came on to me once when I was probably at the loneliest point in my life and I still just took her back to her home, knowing she was in no shape to be making any decisions).

Adam Buckley

Well, the WatchMojo thing wasn't overly exciting for me because I kinda always hated them, and my little "feud" or whatever with them was kinda dumb, but yeah I absolutely never expected a video to ever hit a million views, never mind 10 million views, and to get 100,000 subscribers when I did, that felt insane to me. It wasn't so much the notoriety though, it was more the fact that it proved other people actually did like what I'm doing and shared similar opinions that was gratifying. I didn't care about being "known", but being able to entertain a large audience is really cool.

Adam Buckley

Sorry. I have another question. What do you think of fitness trackers? Do you think that the statistics they provide are accurate? And how comfortable would you feel with giving your information to the company that makes them?

Hannah Hakes

I don't know if I really truly have a favorite top 3 songs. I guess maybe gun to my head I'd say: The Sword - Tres Brujas Strapping Young Lad - You Suck Cavalera Conspiracy - Sanctuary These are songs that I always really enjoy and never skip when they show up on the playlist.

Adam Buckley

Happy Holidays. I've actually never smoked even one time in my entire life. I don't really get the appeal. As for quitting... I honestly don't think everyone's got the willpower, I think willpower is an attribute that can't be taught or trained, some people are born with it and some aren't. I've seen it with boxing, like some people just have the ability to, even when they're exhausted, continue on, and others will just give up, no matter what. So... I think the best way to quit doing anything is to just stop, be miserable for as long as it takes to no longer be miserable, and then eventually you won't be. But that doesn't work for everyone... so, I don't know, if you can't do that, just smoke less until you're not smoking anymore. Or, move to Canada in the Winter. You can't smoke inside anywhere and it's too fucking cold to go outside, so you'll just have to stop.

Adam Buckley

Not really to be honest.

Adam Buckley

I just thought it'd be funny. I have Ace of Spades in rotation on my phone pretty often, and I remember just listening to the lyrics, really listening to them one day and going "Wow... I love this song, but these lyrics are so dumb... this might be a funny autopsy".

Adam Buckley

I honestly don't remember. I'm guessing someone narced on her. It happened at a time when I was doing really well numbers-wise (like every video I made would get 300k views no matter what the topic was) and so a lot of people knew who I was and what I was doing, and my guess is someone stumbled upon those, went "wow this looks really familiar... wait, these are Buckley videos!" and told me.

Adam Buckley

Probably the belief that it's always cold here. I guess this still persists among some Americans, like they think it's always snowy in Canada at all times of the year. Meanwhile it's like 40F in the summer where I live some days. And obviously the belief that we're more polite... Canadians can be real assholes to each other, that's for sure.

Adam Buckley

I think the shortlist would be "Everything Everywhere All At Once", "The Batman", "All Quiet on the Western Front", and "Weird: The Al Yankovic Story". All for different reasons. That Weird Al movie might have honestly been one of the best comedies made in 10 years.

Adam Buckley

I don't really know anything about the "woke movement". I think that a handful of people are like "we should maybe just be nicer to people" and then there's a very very small number of people who are on Twitter going "cancel these things they're bad!" but no one on any side takes them seriously. I don't know... as a society we've always tried to progress. I wonder if Twitter existed in the 80s, what people would have been like as we worked toward being more accepting of gay people... or of black people in the 60s. Would that have been "woke"? I don't know. As for the Tates... I didn't know there was a second one, and Andrew just seems like another charismatic goober who's managed to grift a bunch of weak idiots.

Adam Buckley

Not really harassed or stalked, but like... this one woman used to e-mail me like 3 times a week, she was clearly watching all of my videos (this was about 5 years ago or so) and she'd e-mail me to tell me her thoughts on every video, often disapproving because she was very religious. I eventually made a game of it to see how long she'd do this without me ever replying (I never replied once), she must have sent me 100 e-mails and I never replied once, but she would e-mail me as if this was some sort of ongoing conversation where she was replying to my videos.

Adam Buckley

1. How much French do you speak? 2. What are the chances of running into someone who speaks French in London, ON?
