An Apology in Advance...

Hey everyone, so... first off, I want to say sorry for making you read a bunch here (how Canadian am I? I'm already apologizing FOR the apology). But the tl;dr is that I don't think I'm going to be able to release the Musical Autopsy I promised this weekend (though I am hoping to get it out in the future), and I'm going to release this week's Exclusive to everybody instead.

So, this week has been... not great. First off, one of our cats, Bowie, who you may have known better as "Rick" from Jason's J'Opinions, died on Wednesday. He became very sick about a week ago, we did everything we could, but unfortunately he passed in his sleep. He's been with my girlfriend for over 13 years, and I've been with my girlfriend for over 7 years, so... you can imagine it hasn't been a great start to the week. I don't tell you this to try and gain sympathy or anything, just to explain the kind of mood I'm in when Sony decided to fuck up my weekend.

On top of all of this, I'm going to be coaching at a Boxing Tournament starting this afternoon and will be gone all weekend. So, your responsible pal Buckley decides "I'm going to upload this weekend's video early, I'll get everything all scheduled so it's automated, I don't have to worry about it, and my audience will get to enjoy this weekend's video unaware that I'm not here to push buttons." This weekend's video? A Musical Autopsy of the song "Break My Soul" by Beyonce. So, I upload it, and IMMEDIATELY they tell me it's blocked. It's not a copyright strike, there's a difference, but all that really matters is... the video is unable to be viewed by anyone, anywhere. If I were to schedule it for Saturday, there's a very good chance no one would be able to actually view it. Who owns this song you might ask? Sony Music.

Sony Music have become complete pricks lately. They've "shadow blocked" videos that were previously visible (they block a video they already have a 3rd party claim on, videos that they've had claims on for years and just happily took the monetization dollars from, but you get zero notification that this happened, and someone just has to happen across it and tell you... this happened to Todd in the Shadows several times as well). This, I BELIEVE, is because of their stance on Russia. They've partially blocked a number of my videos, where everyone else in the world can see them except for Russians, but they also fully blocked videos worldwide, perhaps just being too aggressive, or perhaps pressing the wrong button. When I've disputed those fully blocked videos in the past, they've unblocked the video for everywhere BUT Russia (so they kept the 3rd party claim, they just changed the visibility).

I've appealed the block, which I'm hoping will have the same result (they'll unblock it everywhere except for Russia). And when you dispute a block, YouTube makes the video visible... but not until 48 hours after you filed your dispute. Which means it wouldn't be visible, at the earliest, until 10am Saturday, 2 hours before I would upload it. This means Patreon wouldn't get the usual early access period, and I wouldn't be able to do much about it anyway because, again, I'm going to be away all weekend with limited time to check on these things.

HOWEVER, the show must go on. I don't want to miss a Saturday just because of Sony's nonsense. But I don't have time to get another video ready. SO, I've decided to make my "Revisiting The Ten Worst Songs of 2012" video available to everyone on Saturday. This is not ideal, I really would prefer that video stay an exclusive, but it's the closest thing to a "weekend-length" video I have available right now to share with everyone. So, this is why I'm apologizing to you. I know some of you may subscribe to me specifically for my exclusives, and I really don't want you to feel like you're getting ripped off or like it was a waste to subscribe if I was just going to make the video available to everyone anyway. I promise I'll try and make it up at some point by Revisiting The Worst Songs of 2010 or/and 2011, and those will definitely stay as exclusives. And of course, I'm hoping to make this Musical Autopsy available at some point, so I'll make sure you guys get earlier-than-usual access to it.

Who says this shit isn't as stressful as a real job? Oh right, I think I did once. Remind me to slap that guy...

Sorry. Again.
