Well, we're 8 days into January, and what a horror show so far. But hey, at least we still have musicians to make fun of! And so, let's get to this weekend's video, courtesy of your favorite Doc!
Doc Buckley's back in the Musical Morgue for the first time in 2021, and he's carvin' up a song by a girl you've probably heard him mention once or twice in the last few years... Bebe Rexha's radio hit "Baby I'm Jealous" is on the table, as Buckley looks at another "empowerment" song with a botched message.

Not only that, there are artists like Maroon 5 that basically rely on airplay to stay on the charts as they don’t have as big a streaming audience as say Ariana Grande does.
2021-01-08 18:17:29 +0000 UTCI agree but for a different reason. Radio becomes very... self-fulfilling in a way. Billboard has over time reduced the weight of radio, but yeah basically radio programmers are lazy, so they go "hmm, what's popular according to Billboard? Oh that's the #1 song? We should play that a lot then". So they do, and the charts go "Oh this is being played a lot, it's the most popular then" and it goes on and on.

2021-01-08 18:15:20 +0000 UTCBebe Rexha and most recently 24KGOLDN are examples of why I have been saying for years that billboard needs to put less weight on radio play because not only is it an outdated method of music discovery but labels also have full access to services like DMDS as well as relations with top programmers and that’s why certain songs stay at the top of the charts for a long time.
