EARLY ACCESS: Smash Mouth vs Radio Hosts

VIDEO LINK: https://youtu.be/wSQaBrgALWQ

It's time for your early look at this week's video! The description is below, but I also wanted to mention that the voices you'll hear in the "Buckley's Unfocused Focus Group" segment were from Patreon members. This is a feature I may attempt again at some point, so if you're in the "Recommended Dose" tier or above, definitely consider linking your Discord account to Patreon (it can be done through the settings here on Patreon) for a chance to get chosen next time. Anyway, on with the video!

After years of being trolled on the Internet, are Smash Mouth reinventing themselves as the ultimate trolls? After playing a concert in the middle of a pandemic, the 90s alt-rock group took some time to tell radio hosts that they don't appreciate people talking over the intros of music. Guess how radio hosts responded? Buckley, a trained radio broadcaster, breaks down what the argument was all about, and who's really right.

EARLY ACCESS: Smash Mouth vs Radio Hosts

Fun format. You might wanna talk to your guests a bit more so you can pick and choose the right soundbyte for the montage later on, but it's a cool concept.

I don't listen to the radio basically ever. I don't like getting commercials and the jockeys tend to be annoying. That said, I love me some radio edits of songs. Some songs have intros that take ages where nothing is happening. I hate that shit. I'd much rather hear a radio host talk about whatever than listen to a minute and a half of slow buildup to a song. I suspect many people share this, that's why that shit is cut out in radio edits to something manageable for the host.

I'm still surprised this media is still alive

I also hate it when for example "Beat it" is faded out just before Eddie Van Halen's solo

Thor Stone

I never thought there would EVER be a time I agreed with Smashmouth 😳

Honestly I don't care too much when the announcer talks during the intro. I could take it or leave it. I usually listen to the same station because they play a lot of songs I like and occasionally something I haven't heard (mainly listen while driving to and from work.) And late at night it's usually Alice Cooper who's hosting it.

So radio is saying, go out to other options that doesn't have intro. Radio is basically dying because of those options. It seems kind of counterproductive to me.

The only problem I have with hitting the post is that sometimes songs have bangin’ intros and I can’t hear them thanks to the announcers. For example, the intro to “Since I’ve Been Loving You” by Led Zeppelin from “The Song Remains the Same”. I bust a nut to that every time I hear it. I’d be pissed if an announcer decided to talk over that.

I can’t listen to the radio at work cause it’s a solid 5 for me when they hit the post. Might get fired for jizzing at work....kidding. Great video though! I’ve personally not listened to the radio for years, it’s dead to me. If I want to listen to music I’ll play it through Spotify because I don’t want to listen to random music that I may or may not like.

Getting all hot n' bothered when Buckley "hits the post".
