EARLY ACCESS: Cancel Culture vs Consequence Culture

VIDEO LINK: https://youtu.be/lPDyjzgxvBU

It's Friday and it's time for your first look at this weekend's new video! Here's the description from the video:

JK Rowling and a number of other authors and creators signed an open letter to... I don't know... the world... about the dangers of cancel culture (except they called it something else to sound smarter). But is it really a danger? And are some of these people just mad that they're getting yelled at on the Internet? AND is it really censorship of your views when they get shown to millions of people, many of whom just happen to think your views are dumb? Buckley looks at all this and more.

And a quick note, all August long I'll be streaming on Sunday afternoons, so feel free to join me at 2pm ET (11am Pacific, 6pm GMT, sort it out for where you live) at twitch.tv/DoseofBuckley

EARLY ACCESS: Cancel Culture vs Consequence Culture

Bueller? Bueller? Hah!

Great video, Buckley! You really have this wonderful eloquence with your words. I've been thinking this stuff for awhile and just couldn't figure out how to phrase it.

If you ever do get 'cancelled' Buckley, don't worry, you'll always have plenty of fans in Australia. Sure we're only a nation of 20 million people but we could use a good leader. I know, I know, you're a Canadian but so what, we've been taking orders from foreigners for the last two centuries. What's another decade or so? #BuckleyForPresident (also, I feel like I could do a good job of your PR campaign, am unemployed at the moment). :D

Cancel culture has always make me think “wow free publicity for [flavour of minute]”. Because shit, even toddlers know that any kind of attention (good or bad) is 1000x better than no attention at all

Hey Michal, it varies video to video. A LOT of times I write pretty linear and just let it flow, like I kinda know where I want to go but I just drive the car until I hit the wall and I go "yep! that made a cool explosion, we'll keep that one!" if that makes sense. But sometimes I'll have the end joke, I'll write it down first, and then it's a matter of getting to it.

I feel like the people who think cancelling a celebrity is effective are the people who spend all their time online and think that everyone plays by the rules of their virtual community. Even if a tweet gets 100k likes, that’s still only a fraction of Twitter users, not to mention people who live in the US or the rest of the world. If you really think someone did something wrong, tweeting is the least effective (but easiest) thing you could do to prove your point.

A question out of pure curiosity- when You write a script for the video are the ending lines written first, last or there's no rule? Because they are a part I always looked forward to the most since they are excellent at driving the point to a finish line

“Ugh cancel culture is just so toxic” says some 14 year old who learned that their favourite celebrity said something racist.
