Bonus #29 - Batfleck: Now The Greatest Batman (Extra Dose)

VIDEO LINK: https://youtu.be/oGKZsr5X7qs

Well, August is here. A few years ago I used to do this thing called "Angry August" where I'd just do two videos a week instead of one... except for those of you on Patreon, I'm already doing two videos a week! So I'm going to also be streaming every Sunday afternoon around 2pm ET this month. Hopefully you can stop by, maybe be part of the show. In the meantime, it's your weekly Patreon bonus video! Here's the description from YouTube:

Recently everyone took to the Internet to show their appreciation to Ben Affleck for what they feel is the greatest portrayal of the Dark Knight on the big screen. But wait a minute... weren't they calling for his head 7 years ago? And didn't your old pal Buckley make a video about that?

Talking about insane hyperbole, anime fans are exactly the same.

I can agree with your statement. We have seen him in five movies (1966 movie, Batman 1989, The Dark Knight, Suicide Squad and Joker). Hopefully other villains get to be shown such as Riddler in the upcoming The Batman. I wouldn't mind seeing another go at Mr Freeze or maybe someone new like Manbat or the Mad Hatter.

The thing that shits me the most about Batman movies is that they almost always have to have the Joker as the villain. Fucking lay off the Joker train and pick any of the numerous other villains the franchise has. Plenty of them and that's even before you delve into the comics which probably have more still compared to the cartoons and the 60's tv series.

That's how they pronounced it in the movie. I think I'll go with my defense being that, in Nolan's Universe, that's the name of the character. He's "Rah's Al Gool", a different character than "Raish Al Gool" from the rest of the media. Honestly it does depend who I'm talking to. If I'm talking about the Nolan movies to someone, yeah, I'll pronounce it like that because that's how they know it. If I was in the company of comic super-nerds or fans of the animated series, I'll go with the other pronunciation.

Adam Buckley

Oh hey I’d forgotten how weirdly you pronounced Ra’s in the original video. Do you still pronounce it like that?

I always wonder what Kilmer and Clooney could have done with a Batman movie that wasn't made for 10 year olds as a way to sell happy meal toys. I can't ever really blame them.

Adam Buckley

It’s really annoying that I’ve always liked him as Batman and people basically hissed at me for saying so. Michael Keaton is my first favorite but Ben Affleck is definitely my second. I think he did really well despite terrible scripts and he was judged based on that. Now apparently everyone has changed their minds? People need to chill the fuck out and give each actor a chance. Except for Kilmer and Clooney lol.

Chantal

I feel like the only way to truly kill Batman would be to cast our hero and geek god Buckley as the Riddler. With his brutal put downs, insults and jabs at the Caped Crusader's sexuality, character and what have you, well, I think maybe that's the one thing he wouldn't be able to survive ;) I remember that video you brought up too, I also remember the funny part where you mentioned a woman in India being raped and saying 'that rape was horrible, then I find out Ben Affleck is being cast as Batman, this day just keeps getting worse and worse.' Hehe, Classic Buckley.

"Hate of new things is always gonna be louder than people being carefully optimistic" I think that's the point I made 7 years ago though (and what I'm saying in this video), that it shouldn't be. That basically people should shut up until they see what something's going to be. Don't just immediately go "this is going to be the worst my whole life is in shambles!" before even seeing it.

Adam Buckley

Anyhow, I think batman was far from the thing that made justice league shit. The way I see it, the one thing that the DCEU films _all_ have in common is that the characters are great (except for Katana), but they're in a terrible, written-by-committee script/story/whole.

Pim

Bit of a strawman, isn't it? Assuming it's the same people who criticized Benfleck who are now praising him, then calling them hypocrites for it. Hate of new things is always gonna be louder than people being carefully optimistic.

Pim

Heat Death - coming in 2052 🤣🤣🤣 Bet you're right!

Fiz Gig

Normie tier answer I'm sure but I'm going to have to say Bale still., and I really liked Batman Begins more than the others. Although in his old age, and with a different director/writer/everything, I could really see Clooney pulling off a great older Bruce Wayne who's become sick of what the world has become and doing a "Dark Knight Returns" type storyline (although we already got the Batman vs Superman fight in Batman v Superman)

Adam Buckley

So... what is your favourite Batman actor and which movie do you like best?

Thor Stone
