EARLY ACCESS: Neil Young vs Donald Trump (or: How Music Licensing Works)

VIDEO LINK:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7hcZmjy6cx8

It's the end of another week, which means it's time for your early look at this weekend's Dose! Now, at first glance, "oh great Buckley's getting political again!" but this video isn't so much about Trump as it is about music licensing and performance rights. Ever wonder how people are legally allowed to play certain songs at various events? Well let your ol' pal Buckley explain it! Here's the video description:

Every President or Presidential-hopeful uses music as part of their campaign events to hype the crowd up (or at least make it so they're not sitting in silence waiting for their guy to show up). But what's unique about Donald Trump is that a lot of the artists he plays really don't want their music associated with him. But did you know that these musicians are pretty much SOL? Buckley explains why.

Enjoy your weekend!

Comments

Would love to see a Biden vs Trump wrestling match and they both have their 'entrance music' to come out to. Biden's could be Guns N Roses 'You're Crazy' because with his memory loss and all his gaffes clearly he is losing it and Trump's could be Eminem's 'I Just Don't Give a Fuck.' I'd watch it in a heartbeat how about you?

BMI and ASCAP... man, that killed me... almost peed my pants laughing

Snot caked hands. Hahahaha.

I think someone from Queen yelled at them, and obviously there's certainly possibilities where their blanket license DOESN'T give them a certain song or songs, but for the most part the reason you haven't heard about any legal action being taken is because there's no legal action to take. All they can do is say "hey! We don't like you, don't use our song!", and Trump's team can either say "oh, sorry" or "Haha, piss off!"... often times, they say "oh, sorry" but then use it again anyway (in this case, they used Neil Young's music before, got told not to, said they wouldn't, and then that team was replaced with a new events team and they just used it again).

I'm curious, haven't there been times where Trump or his team haven't gotten the rights to use songs at rallies? I thought there was some trouble they got into with using Queen songs at some point.
