EARLY ACCESS: Musical Autopsy: The Police - Don't Stand So Close To Me [COLD CASE]

Well Patreon, I promised this about 2 months ago, but finally my very first Musical Autopsy: COLD CASE is ready, and you get to be the first to watch it! The 1980 produced, 1981 hit song "Don't Stand So Close to Me" has had a little surge in popularity due to "these uncertain times" and the hook that urges people to social distance (har har), but what about the rest of the lyrics?

Good stuff! I've seen numerous examples of this in my lifetime, and it makes me smile when people talk about "how music used to be". It hasn't changed that much.

Sting is one creepy dude. Lol seriously.

It never really occurred to me how sketchy these songs could be. I think I’m going to go through my playlists and reevaluate some things

Thank you very much for the link, I found Gloria Gaynor's 'I will survive' on the list which is funny because that's one of mum's favorite songs as well. On a related note I might have a candidate for a Musical Autopsy Cold Case just for the irony alone. Heart - All I Wanna Do Is Make Love To You is a song about a woman who picks up a guy by the side of the road, bangs him in a hotel, ditches him and has his kid without his knowledge. Then she runs into him and admits she used him so she could get knocked up because her man can't handle the job. Great message for the kids, especially at a time when we guys are being told how 'toxic' we are. :) Thanks again.

Whoa! That does elevate the fuckedupness of it all.

It amazes me how people can misinterpret songs that seem so obvious. I’ve heard a lot of people thinking Every Breathe You Take by The Police is a love song

Sting was a teacher before The Police which makes it worse.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Billboard_Hot_100_top-ten_singles_in_1979 A lot of Disco at the time still. Also Michael Jackson's "Don't stop til you get enough" which COULD sound creepy (especially from him) but I think the statement is more an invitation to bang him until they've had enough, rather than him not stopping until he's had enough.

I remember how shocked I was the first time I heard the song Young Girl by Gary Pucket and the Union Gap on the local radio. A song about an actual pedo 😐

I was born in 1979, I wonder what disturbing chart toppers came out that year?

I always thought the words were: Her friends are so careless. The more you know.

Gary Leigh

Sting lyrics are creepy. I think it's pretty cool that you and I were born the same year.

Erica Foster

I was an adult when this came out, 21 in fact. I always knew it was creepy and it soured me to the Police. Then there's that Every Step You Take ditty...

Love these so much. Hilarious. Keep up the good work.

Oh this is going to be a fantastic series, I can already tell

This has been a super long week for me, and this Musical Autopsy just made my day. Thank you, Buckley!

Nothing like a Musical Autopsy to make Friday afternoon awesome. <3
