Bonus #9 - Comedy at Club Discord

Hey, it's experiment time again! So about a week ago, I asked a few Patreon members to join me in a Discord voice chat, and subjected them to my live comedy. I think this might be the first time anyone's ever done this, and maybe for good reason, but while we're all under self-isolation and everything's closed, I think more (actual) stand-up comedians should give this a try. I got to see what worked, what bombed, and I've left all of that in for you. Let me know what you thought, and if I do another one maybe you can be in the audience for it.

This hits different 10 months later lol

I liked this, at first I didn’t like hearing the audience but then I realized it might be better with a few more people as part of the audience. Without it it’s not much different from your weekly videos.

Chantal

This was good, I’d love to see you continue to do stand-up. Lifestyles of the YouTube Famous is my favorite piece of premium content you’ve put out

This came out on my Birthday, I can't believe I missed this!

Speaking of inappropriate comedy, is it too early to start a deadpool on which celebrity we'd most like to see get Corona?

This is very nice, I really enjoyed this stand-up type content, I hope that I get to hear more of this from you in the near future.

I appreciate the feedback. The experiment was "performing in front of a live audience who are at their homes", and trying to see if the jokes land instantly (which some of them did, some of them... definitely did not), and trying to recreate a comedy club on a digital platform. I actually did try these jokes without an audience, originally I was just going to record myself doing stand-up in an empty room, but after a couple practice runs I was like "this is awful, it sucks everything out of these types of jokes". I kinda wonder if it would have been less "annoying" if there were more people, not being able to pick out individual laughs (not that I found anyone's laugh annoying, just that when there's only 8 - 10 people in a room, you can tell who is who pretty much).

Maybe next time without "audience"!? I thought the laughter was quite annoying to be honest.

As a moderator I need to get better at cutting them off when they drone on too long. Call-in shows aren't for everyone though, that's for sure. Some people really like to listen to other people's opinions and think "man that guy's a fucking idiot" or think "oh hey someone who actually agrees with me!" but some people just aren't interested in it, especially since I guess you can go on Twitter to find thousands of people arguing with each other, but I like it as a variation on other Live shows or even podcasts where it's just a voice or two for an hour.

Adam Buckley

Lots of fun to listen to but the time zone is awkward for listening live... them’s the breaks, I guess.

I never got into Discord but I heard some of the live stuff. One thing I was not a huge fan of was having your listeners "call in". Most of them had very little to say, and went on wayyyy too long. No offense intended, the rest was enjoyable.

This was fun to listen to :)

Not going to lie, I was mostly chuckling lightly at this. But the school shooting joke was a guy buster for me.

Jacen Dane

We did family stuff last Friday or I would've been there like the Friday before. The only other comedian I've noticed doing live stuff right now is Steve Hofstadter.

Richard Family

He said maybe more of us can participate if he does another. Also, let's not forget A Dose of Buckley LIVE again this Friday!

Morticia1313

Very nice!

I wish I had been invited :(

<3 Digging this so far. I listen to your Lifestyles of the YouTube Famous often. You have such an awesome style for comedy and your content is really helping me with this whole quarantine situation. Thanks a bunch for keeping us laughing, Buckley!

Morticia1313

Enjoyed that Buckley. Is stand-up something you are planning on doing more regularly? Could see you going on tour to a few places in North America and doing a few stand-up gigs live. I'm sure a lot of fans would be really keen to grab a ticket for something like that
