Let's Talk Tiers (Or Lack Thereof)

I like your content in general, I'm that you're making content again! The bonus content is cool, it's interesting to see you try out some new ideas, it doesn't matter to me if it's exclusive content or not. Mostly I'm here to support you how I can, the extra content is a bonus for me but I'll still happily just watch whatever you make available on YouTube if you want to keep the higher tier stuff as Patrons only stuff.

To be honest I'm currently at the $1 level level due to limited funds and would be happy with just the bonus content only available on Patreon, I don't really care about early access but would want to think the money was going towards something every month.

So far I've really enjoyed the bonus content, so I wouldn't mind rounding up to $Five USD for that. (I'm currently a little under five, to make it a round number after taxes and currency conversion) Realistically, I probably wouldn't upgrade for discounted merch. I might buy some merch at some point if it's sufficiently cool, but it wouldn't really make sense to pay each month to maybe get a discount on some stuff. I'd probably be better off just buying it directly.

I'm a complete newbie to Patreon and the tier rewards system. If you do make tiers, I'm certainly not going to complain about getting bonus perks. That being said my biggest consideration when it comes to doing a monthly Patreon contribution is my income. As long as my job doesn't screw me over on hours too badly, I'll keep chipping in because I value the content you make.

I personally don’t care much about the tier system, but I do think it would be a great incentive for others to give more to help you produce your content. I’m going to be giving $5 regardless of a tier system or lack thereof because I’m so stoked you’re back and I want to support you.

The tiers and bonuses in my case are really just bonuses for me. I just wanted to support one of the few content creators I can honestly say I've watched every video of. I like the Discord integration idea, it would allow more direct feedback and a little community of people with the same sense of humor to conglomerate, which could be fun! The bonus episodes that don't go to YouTube are nice additional content, the early uploads are cool but I'd still support even if I had to wait another day like usual. Maybe a bonus to consider is BTS process snapshots of what goes into a Dose. Maybe it's just me, but I find it fascinating seeing the process that goes into it. Practicing deliveries of lines, flubs, working out timing and etc. Either way, keep doing what you're doing!

I mostly don't care about bonus stuff. I'd totally join a discord server if that were made available to me, but I prefer to donate just a couple bucks to a bunch of my favorite creators, rather than a higher amount to a few. I have no problem with higher tiers getting bonus content that I don't get, but I will say that something I have seen happen in the past is that if you have too many tiers you run the risk of creating too large a workload for yourself with extra patreon content, and either your general audience suffers because your normal work is impacted, or your patrons suffer because they aren't getting everything they're paying for. For that main reason, I personally like a model that only has a couple tiers, one for most folks who are happy to support, and one for high ballers who really want to throw some money at you. That's my two or three cents.

As someone who has been supporting mod creators on patreon for a while now, I can see both a positive and negative to the tier system. For those who just want to support you, the tiers are just an added bonus. However, they can also lock people out of content that they'd love to have, but cannot afford. That being said, I fit into both of these categories somewhat and have considered lowering some of my other pledges, or eliminating them, just so I could put more toward supporting your work. My husband and I both enjoy what you do and were excited to see you come back. So, in the end, whatever you choose will be fine. I will most likely be figuring a strategy to increase my support either way. Thank you so much for all the work you've done and plan to do!

I think it's a good idea, especially seeing it would encourage people to bump up their pledge. I'm in the "support for support's sake" category and I'm well aware my $2 a month isn't going to get me wealth of merch and prizes, I'm totally ok with that. I am a fan of early access though and I'd be stoked with a bit of extra content now and again, it's even more than I'd expect. I'm not likely to increase anything as I have to deal with currency conversion but I'd say those tiers seem fully reasonable and appealing to a lot of people.

FWIW - I am so happy to have your content back and happy to be able to support you, even in a small way. I like the idea of the discord thing - but honestly if you didn't do anything extra that would be fine. I am fairly sure that I am not the earliest of your supporters - but I really like your content and honestly you are the only youtuber that I feel that strongly about to actually contribute to their patreon. For that matter - I think that you are working really hard and putting out good content and I think that's probably all any of us want. For me - the paramount concern would always be that you don't get to a point where you are burnt out. I know that this can be a blessing and a curse as you now feel obligated to make content - and I know that originally that was why you scaled back in the first place. I really don't have much to say on that since I am not a youtuber and don't really know anything about the work that goes into that (although I do some video editing for work I do - so I know it is a lot) - but as long as you are happy making content - I am happy to watch it and support you. I really only added my support to see the show continue. I think the perks are just a little extra and I'm happy with them. I only donate like a dollar but I get a lot of cool things for that and I'm appreciative. I'd never donated to a Patreon before so I'm glad this could convince me.

I started supporting you because I was ecstatic to see you return. I'm not here just for the bonus stuff - though I will say that it is nice. The tiers seem reasonable to me; even people giving on the lower end are getting something and they don't go so high where I look at them and go "damn he's really expecting people to give him that much?".

I don't love tiers on Patreon and I can't really articulate why, but I'm just here to support you making content. Bonus content or no bonus content, I'll continue giving at a level I feel comfortable with and enjoying the content you do put out.

Some others I contribute to offer 3 or 4 group hangouts for an hour per month (10 people cap.. usually no more than 7 even show up) at the 10 dollar level, and 30 minutes of 1 on 1 hangouts at the $20 level. These are scheduled at the start of the month. Just more ideas to consider.

Overall a good idea, but it's not clear what the difference is between a 1 $ and 2 $ donation. How many more extras does a 2 $ donator get compared to a 1 $ donator? What about a three tier system with a sub-5 $, a 5 $ and a 10 $ (and above)?

As a long-time fan of your work, I really enjoy having access to even more of your content. Still, I would not mind if you put the stuff on Youtube later on - I mean, that's still where your main audience is watching. The tiers work for me, so no objections there. Just do what feels most comfortable for you!

I'm just supporting you. I can't really do a high tier of support because I'm a full time student but I like the content and the bonus content is kind of hit or miss for me. I am glad you've warmed up to monetizing your content in some way, especially since it avoids ad revenue. The bonus content has been kinda hit or miss IMO. I'm pretty sure half of the comments on the first one were copied from Reddit. I don't like that format in general though, kinda reminds me of rslash and the youtubers that just browse reddit for you. I've always been following you to hear you shit on pop culture and that's about it.

Like you, I'm Canadian - and Patreon doesn't allow for pledges in local currency, only USD. I can't really go past the $5 tier if I want to guarantee that I can keep my subscription and still accept the conversion from CAD. I hope that doesn't sound cheap, because I really appreciate your content and am glad that Patreon has brought you back. I don't see any reason to object to the tiers you've outlined, even knowing I can't go any higher though - I definitely think it makes sense to offer rewards to those that can. Edit: I appreciate having some Patreon exclusives, but I also don't think they're strictly necessary as far as YouTube content goes. A Patreon only discord would be cool, or maybe a Patreon subscriber only live stream or something.

I'm happy with the "premiere on Patreon followed by wide release on YouTube" model. It allows those of us with an itch for another fix to get it early, while also enabling you to reach new viewers/supporters as well as those who can't support you on Patreon for whatever reason.

I'm just in it to throw support and enjoy your videos.

This system is decent. 500 $1 supporters can go a long way. As for the $10 tier, it's not too high and the benefits are awesome. Even as a pretty big fan, I find it hard to justify supporting with that much. Then again, it could be that way with any creator I'd support. I've seen people blow more money on lesser (Supreme, etc., maybe I just handed you a new rant topic). I'll move to $5 or $2 but I'm not much of a discord guy. Maybe a Patreon exclusive read your questions dose? Either way glad to see there's some discussion.

There are a few people who would be in an even higher tier, I guess the question would be an appropriate reward for that. And also, you can pledge whatever you want. Patreon informed me that someone could pay $20 a month, and select that they'd like to be in the $1 tier. So, it's up to them I guess. I did think about a higher tier where... maybe like the first time you join it, you get a Cameo style video where I roast you or a friend.

I've liked it since i found ya about 6 years ago with your musical autopsy of "according to you" and "call me maybe" both songs i enjoyed but saw your points on. I love the tier stuff. It’s not too steep in terms of privileges, and merch stuff does tempt me to go from $5 to $10. I’d support you anyway, tier or not, but having the bonus stuff is great. Not really a merch person, but I might lurk on Discord to relive my IRC nostalgia. I don’t currently use Discord and you would be the only reason I’d get it. You know my thoughts on everything else by now.

Honestly, I’m just here for the normal content. I found you on YouTube in early 2012, just after the release of the 2011 worst songs list, and you’ve been a staple for me for nearly a decade, same as the sports I follow or the tv shows I watch. I genuinely missed it when you were on hiatus, and if you were asking for the cost of a UK Netflix subscription - which with the conversion I think is about $10 Canadian - for standard content (if there were no tiers and no bonuses) then I would be cool with that. Bonuses are nice but I’m more interested in contributing to you continuing A Dose of Buckley at foundation level. Maybe if I was someone who could watch bonus content as soon as it’s released I’d be more invested but realistically it takes a couple of days between work and uni. Not knocking anyone who wants it, but I’m more invested in you and the content than a cheap t shirt. (Bearing in mind, I’ll still take it though).

I think the discord is a good idea, it’ll serve as a way for us to get to know you as a person more, seeing that jumping from $5-$10 will get me a discount and some form of recognition makes me want to jump up to the $10 tier, one thing that I think would be a good idea is if you had a high tier like $50 or $100 only expected to be paid once before going back to a normal tier where they can maybe request an autopsy, or a topic to talk about, or something like that, I don’t think it’ll be used much but I can assure you it will be used more than once, I wish you all the success in the world man, and I’m ecstatic that you’re back

I like the idea. Have a standard tier where you get most of the stuff and add higher end tier for merchandise and maybe some honorary mentions or one video idea from top tier supporters. These should be limited in number

As I mentioned, the actual interaction on Patreon so far hasn't been crazy, even with 1600+ people, so everything is pretty manageable right now (but obviously, I can't put 1600 names on a slide or two in a video, it'll be unreadable).

The tiers are good, and exclusive content can be a decent little kick in the pants for people to support. Or you could have timed exclusives, where supporters can view it first for a week or two, then dump it on YouTube if you want to. I really enjoy the idea of picking random names for Patreon mentions, kinda shines a different light on who supports you.

Personally, because I have been watching you since around 2011, I really like the bonuses and I actually do watch you on patreon as soon as you post. If you start putting out merch, I'd definitely support that and would be really excited about it. I'm honestly just glad you're back and I'm just happy to watch whatever you put out.

Very well thought out, I definitely think it's a good idea. I'm just glad you're back and have enjoyed your stuff for the last however many years (2011 maybe?) . There's value in what you give us and I'm happy to finally be able to show it in a way that benefits you. (And encourages you to make more!)

I think that this tier level is fair. I was almost going to say that this might piss a few fans off because they will want something for their one dollar. But most people are just glad to have you back and probably don’t care as much about the bonus content.

I wonder if the trump post caused some to leave. But I think these tiers are reasonable. Even at $1, you still get something. $2, $5, and $10 are still reasonable. For the cost of a Spotify membership or less, you get bonus material. Id say no complaints here

I like the idea of the tiers and getting exclusive stuff. I follow other patrons and they have options for the higher up tiers where they get to vote on an aspect of an upcoming video. So that's an idea.

I'm on board with tiers, however you want to set them up. I think exclusives are a good incentive, and personally I'd probably go with the $5 tier (at least until my new job picks up)

Sounds great! It’s simple and clear, unlike some other tiers I’ve seen on Patreon. The random names for 5 dollar supporters is a nice touch as well.

I think the discord is a great idea. The merch too I can’t wait for. The tiers are great imo. Not too crazy and not too underwhelming. I’ll support the idea 100%. I’ll even support it if you don’t do tiers. But the discord is a really good idea. I hope you’ll end up doing that.

Tiers are a good idea, makes me want to jump up from 5$ to 10$ a month. I also like the idea of discount codes for merch. I prefer the bonuses on patreon though. Call me selfish but it makes me feel like I am getting more for my money.
