Episode 154: (by who knows what means)

Part two of part one of act one... the next bit of the play. The first play. Of the two plays that make up the one play, The Cursed Child.

We very nearly didn't finish this one thanks to some nasty Audacity file corruption, but thanks to some heroics you get to hear this nearly-lost episode! We discuss the second chunk of our first reading, which includes the Trolley Witch scene, lots of Boring Adults standing around and talking about newspapers, and further developments in the time-travel sex mystery.

After that, we travel back in time ourselves to read the comments on the subreddit that were being posted as leaks and reactions from the initial play previews were hitting the web. There's a mix of understandable disappointment from people who bought the marketing hook line and sinker, outright histrionics, and one theory about Voldemort and Draco's time situation that shakes us to our cores...

btw thank you liz for the excellent bonus podcast image this week

Personally as changes go I support the trolley witch secretly being Robocob McTerminator because, all else being equal, it’s at least a whimsical, fun, and memorable magical addition to the series instead of more genealogy lore or god forbid the hottest systems update at the wizard dmv…it’s just the kind of weird off-the-wall bullshit the series has been lacking. Thank you Jack Thorne for the food Also bruh……..love the cover art this week. Truly great minds think alike bc that was all I was thinking of both this AND last ep

I wonder how much of Rowling's family trees / genealogy hobby overlaps with more reactionary societal tendencies. There's some thru-line there. We hear a detailed explanation of every character's family roots, see that the same handful of families are involved in everything, and how that was a failing of wizard society in the first few books, but later gets treated far less critically. This podcast's already gone over it plenty, but it really does smack of an ugly worldview.
