Episode 143: Uncle Chuck Fancam

Deathly Hallows chapter 30. We ring in the new year with, no joke, one of the weirdest chapters in the entire series. A few of you warned us about this one (or else gleefully mentioned that something was coming) but nothing could have prepared us for what awaits here: somehow, a chapter even stranger, funnier, and more out of character than any of the previous chapters we've said similar things about. You're not going to want to miss this one: plus, a crash course in... Sonic lore?

relisting to this podcast and god it's just so absurd how brazen the heroes are allowed to be with the unforgivable curses except for the kill one. it reminds me so much of people who push for "non-lethal" policing and how much harm comes from that.

This chapter was so bad it made me go full conspiracy brain and build a timeline of when the books were reported to be "finished" by Rowling and when they got published. I couldn't find any details for many earlier books but I did stumble on this article (https://observer.com/2000/07/the-secret-of-harry-potter-iv-it-almost-blew-deadline/) with this tidbit from one of the editors, "Normally the manuscript is delivered a full 12 months in advance of the publishing date. " JK Rowling reportedly finished Deathly Hallows in January 2007. It was released July 21, 2007 (3 years before movie part 1). That's less than 7 months to get edited, prepped, printed, and everything. Meanwhile Philosopher's had two years between being finished and released. Imagine being an editor on this. Imagine, even if you -had- the ability to push for changes, getting this steaming pile dropped on your plate with barely more than -half- the time you normally would need to make it readable. Holy hell.
