Episode 141: Bread & Cheese

Deathly Hallows chapter 28. We spend a weird amount of time talking about mouths before catching up on the latest reports from Fantastic Beasts film production world and, for some reason, Good Housekeeping, where JKR deigned to give an interview this week. This episode's chapter is fairly lurid and dark, but we keep it light by chatting about bread, cheese, Dobby, and more! Finally, we visit Wizarding World dot com to take their new Christmas Experience for a spin.

Content stuff: JKR is in the news segment again (saying nothing you haven't heard her say before, but still; skip to 34:19 to go right to the chapter discussion. Likewise, the chapter this week is pretty Generally Rough, so I can't really timestamp around anything specific: just know this is the Ariana Dumbledore chapter)

GOd the shit about Ariana killing her mom after getting her mental illness plays on that stereotype that a mentally ill (and neruodivergent because lets be real media and non mentally ill and non neruodivergent people love to lump em together.) being inherently dangerous and have to be killed for their own good. which is deeply fucked (By the way can you both stop using the sociopath stuff? for one sociopath is no longer considered a proper diagonsis and for two it plays into that exact stuff.) And Aberforth going "Oh I bet he's glad to get rid of that burden." The story treats her as a burden so another sterotype of mentally ill/neruodivergent people.

James Mason

i definitely know people who were excited abt fantastic beasts eddie redmayne bc they really liked him as marius in les miserables and are super into his portrayal as newt bc uwu hufflepuff prettyboy but i kinda think crimes of grindelwald might've wiped them out but. it's possible there are some lingering stans
