Hotline Miami Ep. #14 | Common Courtesy

Comments

I agree with Brett. When something is spoilable then it is best to use courtesy or give enough of a heads up before going into it. It is the listeners job to continue or stop and if they get mad then it is on them. I also believe if no context is given it can also be fine like if you say "oh that reminds me of that one movie where the guy wakes up with a horses head in his bed" If the viewer knows it they do if they don't they don't and if they decided to look deeper into it and spoils it for themselves then that again is their fault. I used to be of the camp that mainstream stuff that has been around awhile is fair game but the older I've gotten the more I've learned that there is a shelf life for mainstream. Citizen Kane used to be the go to film for a lot nowadays you don't hear it mentioned as much and younger generations might not even know about it or talk about it at all.

I'm all for courtesy, I just think Alex is tired of having to preface everything he says about a movie with spoiler warnings, especially when it's a 25 year old movie and the actor he's talking about is kind of obscure.
