Spiral suit roughdraft and very early look at the hourglass suit
Added 2022-06-19 17:56:10 +0000 UTCThanks to everyone for responding to the project poll earlier this month! It really did help me direct my focus.
Most of the interest seemed to be on finishing the spiral and hourglass suits for the Singularity Deck, so that's where I've been putting my attention so far this month.
Conceptually, the spirals/wormhole suit was always supposed to blend in alongside the other suits, while also functioning as a bit of a wild suit that bridged the Earth and Cosmos suits.
The way this was achieved in the second edition was by using a black background to make the suit stand out a bit from all of the other ones.
As seen here:

I liked the look of the second edition spiral suit so much that the whole design for the third edition was based on it. This did however leave a bit of a conundrum for how to differentiate the spiral suit for the third edition.
The idea I'm thinking about going with is to use same color scheme and starry background as the card back:

I think this does a good job of making the spiral suit feel special, while also allowing it to blend in with the rest of the suits.
As an aside, seeing the second edition and third edition art side by side like this, really highlighted for me just how much more refined the art for the third edition is compared to the second.
Below are the current rough drafts for the spiral suit. I need some help figuring out what items the court cards should be holding, so if you have any ideas, please share them.

(ignore the line down the jack's face, it's still a work in progress)

For the alpha and omega card, the idea is that they are the two ends of the wormhole, with all of the other cards in between:

Finally, here is an early look at the direction I'm thinking about going for the updated hourglass/spacetime deck. Despite being early, I'd love any thoughts folks may have for what they would like to see for the deck in terms of aesthetics or features.

Thanks Jules and great ideas!
2022-06-21 17:51:20 +0000 UTCI genuinely love this aesthetic and how you made it both so integrated with the other cards while standing out by using the back's bicolor scheme! For what the characters could be holding, I think cards and maybe dice could be an interesting meta option?
2022-06-20 11:18:26 +0000 UTCI really like the meta-nature of the holding cards idea! I hadn't even thought about something like that. I'll try to get something drafted and share it to see what folks think. You're right about the alpha/omega possibly being confusing. I like the idea of them being 2 sides of the wormhole, but making them distinct from each other is tricky. I'll try to brain storm some more.
2022-06-19 19:43:29 +0000 UTCI _really_ like the way this looks. My one comment is that the Alpha/Omega look far too similar to one another, and with the illustration taking up so much of the card face, it will be very easy to confuse them. To lean into the reality-warping nature of the suit, could the face cards maybe be holding cards?
