Of farms and frontiers (pt1)

I did these a little while ago for my first content stream but only posted it on the Discord, so since it's been a bit I think it's fair to make it visible for ya'll! :> My re-visiting and exploring the design and role of Kaela! As a quick reminder for anyone who needs a refresher because it's legitimately been a while: Kaela is one of the main cast of my OC story Feathers and Flowers.
Originally she was a young farmer newbie trying to make it in the world, but I eventually decided to change that. It's mainly because I wanted her to contrast the rest of the cast a little more; Evangeline and Sakura are both in college so they're kinda fresh-faced, and Mal will be busy trying to adjust with her new life in the human realm, so having Kaela being someone with lived in experience felt right.
SO! The change is Kaela's been doing her whole independent farm deal for a little while now; roughly 4-5 years. It does relatively well, well enough that she's able to make a modest living as well as even hire some help when she needs it.
These two sketches depict some of that! The first is her with Li, a highschooler who signed up for a summer program Kaela hosted on her farm and ended up liking it so much she asked for work. Li's tall, but she's a beanpole, so she doesn't really have a lot of strength going for her, but she makes up for it in ambition and determination!
The second is of her with her trusty workhorse, Aukai (means "seafarer"). He's a good boi. uwu

Apologies for the rant there; it feels nice to talk about Feathers and Flowers again, man. ;w; I kinda like doing just the lineart and some grayscale stuff; as much as I enjoy coloring, it's kinda relaxing to not have to worry about it and leaving the work as it is. Might still color 'em in the future though!
