This question was given by the wonderful TheWanderingBard, who asked Mal if her ability to transform into a human was something all Spirits could do! Short answer: yes, they can, but Mal doesn't know this. Neither do the majority of Spirits in the current day for that matter. It's part of the mystery that drove Mal to seek answers out in the mortal realm in the first place!
I might end up doing another Ask the Character but for a fandom, so don't be terribly surprised if I ask for ya'lls suggestions again. :)
But yeh! More to come soon! ^.^
