Mal "Spirit" form concept

Have some concept art for Feathers and Flowers! This time it's of Mal's "Spirit" form, or the big creature shape she's able to take at will.

This design was probably the one I had the most trouble with throughout the two short years of working on this project. For all intents and purposes, Mal, being the first Spirit that will be shown and seen, is essentially the blueprint for all Spirits in the story. I figure her design out, I figure out the common characteristics all Spirits have. Easy enough with her base form, but not so much with her monster form.

But I think I finally nailed down what I wanted out of the design! Mal, in this form, is meant to be otherworldly and maybe even seem approachable... until she opens her mouth. I took some heavy inspiration of No-Face and The Forest Spirit from Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke respectively; I love how the two characters look relatively harmless but there's still something off about them, which is the vibe I tried to aim for. Something a little uncanny even if they're covered in mountains of floof you could sink into :)

I'm actually very happy with how this form came out this time around! owo And just in time too; I'm in the midst of writing the next installment of F&F uwu
