Melon's Adventure: OH SHIT A CLIFF! (p5)

Melon's breath heaves with each lunge he makes, putting everything into his sprint. The hail of spears zipping past them is as concerning as the haunting chants of the mass behind them, the pitter-patter of tiny legs and the roar of rolling stone thundering throughout the cave. The only thing that seems to drown the mayhem out is Mario's panicked wails, and it only spurs Melon to run faster. Melon doesn't bother looking back; he can see the Shy Guys in the reflections of the crystal he dashes past, the sound of splintering and crashing as the rolling boulder gains momentum.

It's only because he's so focused on dodging that he almost doesn't see the cliff ahead; Mario tugging at his crest is what alerts him to their rapidly disappearing ground. For the briefest of seconds Melon considers trying to turn around. A spear lodges itself where his foot once was, quickly crushed under the weight of the Chomp Rock; the sound is almost reminiscent of the chomp-chomp-chomp of the real thing's teeth. It's enough to spark determination in Melon's chest, and with a bark he surges forward on all fours.

Mario's cry echoing in his ears, Melon barely has the room for one full gait, two, three... and then he leaps!

Part 5 of the Yoshi's Adventure! miniseries! Melon makes a death-defying leap for safety from a bunch of Shy Guys... and baby Mario nearly shits himself. xD

The crystal cave levels of Yoshi's Island is amongst my favs to play in the game specifically because of the music that plays. While the whole soundtrack for the game is a complete banger, that one is the one I always come back to in my head. xD I also absolutely love how they looked, specifically the lava-filled ones!
