Bowser: King of swimming!

I'm considering a fun way to go about the Super Mario Bros AU is to answer some of the questions I get with artwork demonstrating my headcanon! owo Not that I haven't done it in this way before, but I guess the difference here is it's following more themed/specific instances and not so much "I draw this lineup, give context to lore in headcanon" format that I typically do.

This time someone asked if Bowser, given his apparent prowess as a swimmer in games, could breath underwater or if it were some sort of spell that gave him his swimming ability. Answer is neither!

The Koopas are almost certainly some form of highly evolved turtle and turtles are known to be able to swim very well and hold their breaths comfortably for hours at a time. As such, all Koopas have the same traits: great swimmers and powerful lungs to allow elongated time underwater, and Bowser is no different. He feels right at home in the water and is a deceptively fast in the water despite his size!

As seen in the images above:

1. Bowser rocking his son (and accidentally himself) to sleep for a nap in the royal pool. I like to think the castle has a huge, probably nature-themed swimming pool the Koopa family frequent, but it's also a great way for Bowser to get Jr sleeping when the kid's fussy or can't seem to catch those elusive Zs. It's a lot like how car rides can lull folks to sleep, just using her giant pops as a gently rocking raft. uwu

2 and 3. On their off days, the gang likes to hit the beach and just have a fun time, often with Bowser volunteering to either be the living boat or pull folks around for water skiing. For the 2nd image Bowser pulls the gals along as fast as he can! Peach doesn't know how to waterski but her girlfriend Pauline does! :) In the 3rd image the king is chillin' and sunbathes with the Bros. owo
