Art Tips: Varied Bodytypes

Hereeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee it is! The milestone post I promised, this time of Art Tips! The one that won the vote was varied bodytypes so hopefully the tips here will help you in the future! :)

Some additional advice not listed above!

-The Squint Test: this is a good technique to use when you aren't entirely sure if your cast is varied without blackening them out to make a silhouette. To use the Squint Test, you do exactly what it implies: squint at the design you're looking at, specifically when it's lined up next to other designs. Does it stand out even if the details are blurry? Doing this throughout your design can help you make sure the character is unique enough to stand on its own, even when the details aren't noticeable

-Liquify Tool: if you use Photoshop a great way to further push a silhouette is using the liquify tool! This'll allow you to play around with the overall shape of the silhouette without having to redraw what you've done; I often use this when I make a silhouette, to further exaggerate the shapes and curves to get something more interesting than what I initially drew.

 -PRACTICE. No matter what, if you want to get better at giving your characters more varied body types, you must practice. Trying exercises such as the one I showed above (taking food items or household appliance and making a simple character based on its silhouette)  is an excellent way to practice varied bodytypes and general shape design.

Thank you all so much for your support and helping me reach the $300 milestone! Here's hoping we make the $400 milestone soon! ;w;
