Melon (Chief Yoshi) design

This here is Melon! They're the parent of Yoshi and the alpha/chief of the Yoshisaur tribe Mario met when he was a baby. I thought hard about how Yoshisaur names would work but given they themselves can't speak in a human language, they'd be entirely impossible to pronounce for a person anyway. So they'd probably have two names: their actual name (which is one in their language) and a more human-friendly name. These names are typically the closest and roughest translation of their actual names, but very simplistic names are just as popular. Being named in relation to fruits and food is particularly hot among Yoshisaurs.

Melon didn't actually choose their name, baby Mario gave it to them in his infancy. The chief liked the name so much that they adopted it themselves. As for personality, Melon is the calm, wise, and protective leader of a small tribe on Yoshi Island. That said though, they're basically the leader of the entire yoshisaur population on the island. If Yoshisaurs want a voice for them, Melon's their first choice.

Melon's very sweet and gentle and like their namesake, really enjoys melons: it's their favorite food!
