1.「いいじゃん別に」

せっかく一週間ぶりに会えたのに、彼女は座ったままスマホを眺めてばかりいる。 こういうのんびりした時間も嫌いではないが、それだけではどこか物足りない。

「せっかく休みだしさ……どこか行かない？」

「んー……明日も一緒なんだし、いいじゃん別に」

気だるそうにそう言うと、また視線をスマホに落とし、黙り込んでしまった。

今日は何を言っても響かなそうだ。 その代わり、明日こそは思う存分、楽しませてもらおう。

2.「ソワソワしすぎ」

たまたま帰省のタイミングが重なった幼なじみと、5年ぶりに再会した。積もる話も多く、立ち話では落ち着かないということで、彼女の部屋にお邪魔することになった。

5年前はボーイッシュで、よく男の子に間違えられていた彼女が、今では当時の面影がないほど女性らしく、驚くほど綺麗になっていた。勢いでついてきてしまったものの、二人きりで過ごすのは心臓に悪い。

急に落ち着かなくなった俺を見上げ、彼女は呆れたように言った。

「ソワソワしすぎ」

3.「ちょっと来なさい」

仕事から帰宅すると、リビングのクッションの上に妻が正座していた。嫌な予感がして、そっと出ていこうとしたが、当然咎められた。

「ちょっと来なさい」

もう逃げられそうにない。覚悟を決めて、彼女の前に正座する。

「これ、何？」

見せられたのはクレジットカードの請求書だった。短時間で1万円の支払いが5回続いている箇所がある。

「ソシャゲの……フェスがあって……」

怖くて目を合わせられないが、それでも圧を感じる。しばらくの沈黙のあと、彼女は静かに口を開いた。

「3ヶ月、お小遣い30％カットね」

「…………」

全力で抗議したいが、「ソシャゲはすべて引退した」と堂々と宣言した矢先にこれは、完全に俺が悪い。引退するつもりだったのは本当なのに、不意打ちで大好きなキャラの衣装違いが実装されてしまい、誘惑に抗えなかったのだ。

「……すみませんでした」

「もう二度と許さないからね」

彼女は冷たく言い放つと、キッチンへ向かっていった。

こういうやり取りのあと、何事もなかったかのように振る舞ってくれる妻にはいつも感謝しているが、今回は俺のほうがしばらく立ち直れそうにない。 なんであんなことをしてしまったんだ……。

1. "It's fine, whatever"

We finally got to see each other after a week, but she just sits there staring at her phone. I don't mind relaxing like this, but something feels missing.

"Since we finally have a day off... wanna go somewhere?"

"Hmm... we'll be together tomorrow too, so it's fine, whatever"

She says this languidly, then drops her gaze back to her phone and falls silent again.

Nothing I say today seems to reach her. Oh well—tomorrow I'll make sure we have a great time instead.

2. "You're fidgeting too much"

My childhood friend and I happened to be visiting home at the same time, and we reunited after five years. We had so much to catch up on that standing around talking didn't feel right, so I ended up going to her room.

Five years ago, she was tomboyish and often mistaken for a boy, but now there's no trace of that—she's become so feminine and stunningly beautiful. I came along on impulse, but being alone with her like this is making my heart race.

Seeing me suddenly grow restless, she looks up at me with an exasperated expression.

"You're fidgeting too much"

3. "Come here for a moment"

When I got home from work, my wife was sitting formally on a cushion in the living room. I had a bad feeling and tried to quietly slip away, but of course she stopped me.

"Come here for a moment"

There's no escaping now. I steel myself and sit formally in front of her.

"What's this?"

She shows me a credit card statement. There's a section with five consecutive charges of 10,000 yen in a short period.

"It was a mobile game... there was a festival event..."

I'm too scared to meet her eyes, but I can still feel the pressure. After a long silence, she speaks quietly.

"Three months, 30% cut in your allowance"

I want to protest with everything I have, but this is entirely my fault—I had just boldly declared that I'd quit all mobile games. I really did intend to quit, but then they surprise-released an alternate costume for my favorite character, and I couldn't resist the temptation.

"...I'm sorry"

"I won't forgive you again"

She says this coldly and heads toward the kitchen.

After exchanges like this, I'm always grateful to my wife for acting like nothing happened, but this time I'm the one who won't be able to recover for a while. Why did I do something so stupid...?
