1.「ほんとにこっちで合ってるの？」

街で声をかけてきた同年代の男と食事に行くことになった。普段はこういう誘いは受けないのだが、彼氏と別れたばかりなうえ、仕事でのストレスが溜まっており、少しでも息抜きになればと思ったのだ。

おすすめの店に行くということだが、どんどん人気のない路地を進んでいくのを見て、不安になってきた。本当にそんなところにお店があるんだろうか。

「ほんとにこっちで合ってるの？」

男は軽快に振り向くと、あっけらかんとした笑顔で頷いた。

「合ってるよ？もうすぐ着くし」

「なら良いけど・・・」

やっぱり辞めておいたほうが良かっただろうか。でも今更断るのも悪いしな・・・。

2.「じゃあ・・・うち来る？」

先週から付き合い始めた先輩と映画館デートをした帰り道。もっと一緒にいたいが、交際したてなのにあまりがっつくのも気が引ける。せめてもとばかりに、解散場所の駅へのルートをわざと遠回りして、ゆっくりと歩いた。

「帰ったら何するの？」

唐突に先輩に尋ねられ、びくっとして振り返る。どことなく顔が赤いのは、夕陽のせいだろうか。

「え・・・とくには何も・・・」

お互い見つめ合い、数秒間の沈黙が流れた。何か言わなければと思うが、言葉が出てこない。

「じゃあ・・・うち来る？」

「え・・・」

先程よりも顔を赤くした先輩は、少しだけ声が震えていた。何気ない様子を振る舞おうとしているが、相当な覚悟を決めて誘ってくれたことがひしひしと伝わってくる。

「行きます」

勇気を出してくれた先輩に応えるように、挙動不審にならないよう、はっきりと答えた。

3.「はぁ・・・またですか？」

社長になって楽に大金を稼ぐことが夢だった。努力のかいあって、小規模な会社とはいえ社長になれたし大金も手に入れたが、全く楽ではない。忙しすぎて、溜まった金を使う暇がない。

終業時間で社員たちが帰った後、疲れた体を引きずり俯きながら廊下を歩いていると、人影が目に入った。顔を上げると、先日雇った秘書がこちらを呆れた顔で見ていた。息抜きに使ったマッチングアプリで出会った女性があまりにも俺好みな美人だったので、高給をちらつかせて秘書として採用した。正直仕事の出来は全く期待していなかったが、思いのほか有能で、このまま成長すれば仕事の負担がだいぶ減るかもしれない。

「相変わらず社長とは思えない覇気の無さですね・・・」

俺に惚れ込まれていることを自覚しているのか、生意気を通り越して失礼すぎる言動ばかりだが、腹は立たない。心底バカにしているわけではなく、彼女なりの心配の仕方だと分かっているからだ。

「今日も疲れた・・・ちょっと社長室で癒やしてくれ」

「はぁ・・・またですか？」

嫌そうにため息をつきながらも、大人しくついてくる。今日も溜まりに溜まった膨大なストレスを、彼女に発散してもらおう。

1. "Are we really going the right way?"

I ended up going to dinner with a guy around my age who approached me on the street. Normally I wouldn't accept this kind of invitation, but I had just broken up with my boyfriend and stress from work had been piling up, so I thought it might be a nice change of pace.

He said we were going to his favorite restaurant, but as we kept walking down increasingly deserted alleyways, I started to feel uneasy. Could there really be a restaurant in a place like this?

"Are we really going the right way?"

The man turned around cheerfully and nodded with a carefree smile.

"Yeah, we're almost there."

"Well, if you say so..."

Maybe I should have turned him down after all. But it's too late to back out now...

2. "So... want to come over to my place?"

On the way back from a movie theater date with my senpai, whom I started dating last week. I wanted to spend more time together, but I didn't want to seem too clingy when our relationship had just started. So I deliberately took a longer route to the station where we'd part ways, walking slowly.

"What are you going to do when you get home?"

My senpai suddenly asked, and I flinched and turned around. Their face was somewhat flushed—was it because of the evening sun?

"Um... nothing in particular..."

We stared at each other, and a few seconds of silence passed. I felt like I should say something, but the words wouldn't come.

"So... want to come over to my place?"

"Huh..."

My senpai's face turned even redder than before, and their voice trembled slightly. They were trying to act casual, but I could clearly sense how much courage it took to invite me.

"I'll go."

After the employees left at the end of the workday, I was dragging my exhausted body down the hallway with my head down when I noticed a figure. Looking up, I saw the secretary I had recently hired looking at me with an exasperated expression. I met this woman on a dating app I used to blow off steam, and she was such a stunning beauty—exactly my type—that I dangled a high salary in front of her and hired her as my secretary. Honestly, I didn't expect much from her work performance, but she turned out to be surprisingly capable, and if she continues to grow, she might significantly reduce my workload.

"As always, you have no presence befitting a CEO..."

Perhaps aware that I'm completely smitten with her, her comments go beyond cheeky to downright rude, but I'm not angry. I know she's not genuinely looking down on me—it's just her way of showing concern.

"I'm exhausted today too... Come relax me in my office for a bit."

"Sigh... again?"

She sighs as if annoyed, but still obediently follows me. Today, too, I'll have her help me release all this massive stress that's been building up.
