1.「お店頑張ってるみたいだね」

バイトが全員帰ったことを確認し、カウンターにもたれかかる。2年前に開業したカフェは当初なかなか軌道に乗らなかったが、近頃ようやく常連客が増えてきて、そこそこ繁盛している。激務というわけではないものの、長く暇な期間を過ごしていたせいか、なかなか身体が慣れない。

うとうとしていると、誰かが入ってくる音がした。バイトが忘れ物でもしたのかと確認しにいくと、元カノが微笑みながら立っていた。

「おぉ･･･久しぶり」

2年前、カフェの経営に集中したいという身勝手な理由で別れた。好きなままの別れは堪えたが、好きだからこそ放っておくようなことにはしたくなかったのだ。彼女は寂しそうに微笑み、文句も言わず頷いた。今でもあのときのことをよく夢に見て、そのたびに罪悪感に襲われる。あんなに良い子を捨てた自分が、日を追うごとに許せなくなっていった。

「お店頑張ってるみたいだね。クマできてるよ？」

最近、店のことで色々と考えすぎて睡眠不足だった。そろそろなんとかしなければと思っていたが、なかなか落ち着かない。

「おかげさまで･･･今日はどうした？」

久々に会う彼女は相変わらず穏やかで可愛かった。あんな振り方をした男なんて憎んでも当然なのに、そんな素振りは微塵もない。

「たまたま近くに用事があったの。営業時間が終わってるのは分かってたけど･･･顔を見たくなって」

今でも好きで仕方ない彼女にこんなことを言われると、勘違いしてしまいそうになる。必死に心を落ち着け、背を向ける。

「せっかくだしコーヒーでも飲んでけよ。そのへんに座って待ってて」

動揺していることを悟られないよう早歩きでカウンターに向かった。背後から彼女の微かな笑い声が聞こえてくる。きっとすべてお見通しなんだろう。

2.「ん・・・さっき起きたとこ」

仕事から帰ると、長同棲する彼女が物凄く眠そうな顔で出迎えてくれた。

「大丈夫か？凄い顔してるぞ」

「ん・・・さっき起きたとこ」

夜勤後に眠り、先程目覚めたばかりらしい

「まだ寝てていいぞ？無理するな」

「ううん・・・もう平気だから」

おぼつかない動作で淹れたばかりらしいコーヒーを飲み、ため息を付く。いつも寝起きに弱い彼女だが、今日は特に酷いようだった。

こんな状態でも出迎えてくれたことと、眠そうな雰囲気ゆえの妙なエロさに仕事の疲れが加わり、急激に性欲が湧いてきた。

（いや・・・こんなにしんどそうなんだし、休ませてやらなきゃ・・・）

彼女から視線を逸らし、スーツの上着を脱ぎながらリビングへ向かった。お互い元気な時まで我慢しなきゃな。

3.「この旅館にして良かったね」

大型連休の中盤、彼女と観光名所を巡って宿に泊まることにした。宿泊費が高騰する時期だったものの、この季節ならではのツツジが咲き誇る評判の良い宿を、比較的手頃な価格で見つけることができた。

観光で疲れた足を引きずりながら部屋に荷物を置くと、まだ元気いっぱいの彼女に腕を引っ張られ、ツツジが美しいという庭園へ連れて行かれた。

庭いっぱいのツツジは、昼間の派手さはなく、淡いシルエットだけが浮かび上がる。土の匂いに混じって甘い香りがほんのり漂い、遠くで虫の声が響いた。

「ツツジって昼間に見ると綺麗な花って思ってたけど…夜のほうが好きかも」

月明かりに照らされたピンクのツツジは上品な輝きを放ち、思わず見惚れてしまう。いつもはおしゃべりな彼女も、この瞬間だけは目を輝かせながら静かに見入っていた。

「ほんと綺麗だったね！！観光地よりここのほうが好きかも！」

部屋に戻った彼女は心から嬉しそうに感想を述べ、その可愛らしさに思わず頭を撫でた。

「そうだね。正直ツツジなんてどこにでもあるから期待してなかったけど、凄く綺麗だった」

「うん…ここに来て良かった」

予算を抑えた宿選びに不安があったが、こんなに喜んでくれるとは思わなかった。このまま最後まで楽しい旅行にしたいが、まずは痛む足を休ませることにしよう。

1. "Looks like the shop is doing well"

After confirming all the part-timers had left, I lean against the counter. The café I opened two years ago had a rough start, but lately we've been getting more regular customers and business has picked up decently. While it's not exactly grueling work, my body hasn't quite adjusted yet, perhaps because of the long periods of downtime we used to have.

As I was starting to doze off, I heard someone coming in. Thinking a part-timer might have forgotten something, I went to check and found my ex-girlfriend standing there with a smile.

"Oh... it's been a while"

Two years ago, I broke up with her for the selfish reason of wanting to focus on managing the café. Breaking up while still in love was tough, but because I loved her, I didn't want to neglect her. She smiled sadly and nodded without complaint. I still dream about that moment, and each time I'm struck with guilt. As days pass, I find it harder to forgive myself for leaving such a wonderful person.

"Looks like you're working hard at the shop. You've got dark circles under your eyes."

Lately, I'd been losing sleep overthinking about the shop. I knew I needed to do something about it, but couldn't seem to settle down.

"Thanks... What brings you here today?"

Seeing her after so long, she was still as gentle and cute as ever. She had every right to hate me for the way I ended things, but she showed no signs of that at all.

"I had some business nearby. I knew you were closed, but... I wanted to see your face."

When she says things like this, it makes me want to misunderstand, especially since I still can't help loving her. Desperately trying to keep my composure, I turn away.

"Well, since you're here, have some coffee. Take a seat and wait."

I hurried to the counter, trying not to let her notice how flustered I was. I could hear her soft laughter from behind. She probably sees right through me.

2. "Mmm... I just woke up"

When I returned from work, my longtime live-in girlfriend greeted me with an incredibly sleepy face.

"Are you okay? You look really out of it."

"Mmm... I just woke up."

It seems she had slept after her night shift and had only just woken up.

"You can keep sleeping if you want. Don't push yourself."

"No... I'm fine now."

She takes a sip of what appears to be freshly brewed coffee with unsteady movements and sighs. She's always groggy when she wakes up, but today seems particularly bad.

Seeing her greet me despite her condition, combined with a strange sensuality from her sleepy demeanor and my work fatigue, suddenly stirred up my desire.

(No... she looks so exhausted, I should let her rest...)

Averting my gaze from her, I headed to the living room while taking off my suit jacket. We should wait until we're both feeling energetic.

3. "This inn was a great choice"

Midway through the long holiday break, I decided to stay at an inn while touring tourist spots with my girlfriend. Although it was a time when accommodation prices were inflated, we managed to find a well-reviewed inn known for its seasonal azaleas in full bloom at a relatively reasonable price.

After dragging our tired feet from sightseeing and putting our bags in the room, my still-energetic girlfriend pulled me by the arm to the garden, which was said to be beautiful with azaleas.

The garden full of azaleas lacked its daytime vibrancy, with only soft silhouettes visible. A sweet fragrance mingled with the smell of earth, while insect sounds echoed in the distance.

"I always thought azaleas were pretty during the day... but I think I like them better at night"

The pink azaleas illuminated by moonlight gave off an elegant glow, captivating us. My usually chatty girlfriend just quietly gazed at them with sparkling eyes in this moment.

"It was really beautiful!! I might like this place even more than the tourist spots!"

Back in the room, she expressed her joy with genuine enthusiasm, and I couldn't help but pat her head at how adorable she was.

"Yeah. To be honest, I didn't expect much since you can see azaleas anywhere, but they were really beautiful."

"Yes... I'm so glad we came here"

I had been worried about choosing a budget-friendly inn, but I never expected her to be this happy. While I want to make this a enjoyable trip until the end, first I should rest my aching feet.
