Twin Peaks Pilot: Northwest Passage

Twin Peaks Pilot: Northwest Passage

The bucolic logging town of Twin Peaks is rocked by tragedy when the town sweetheart, Laura Palmer, is found dead, wrapped in plastic. As those who knew her (which seems to be everyone) reel from this crime, another victim is found alive, but in shock. Over the course of a busy 90-minute pilot, we spend... maybe surprisingly little time with FBI agent Dale Cooper as he begins to unravel the mystery, and a lot of time meeting the enormous cast of characters that comprise Twin Peaks.

Also: Georgia O'Keefe, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, and Big Beautiful Buff Boys Barking.

this is also my first time watching twin peaks, and my personal highlight of the pilot was when the theme song was a diegetic song with LYRICS… i was watching with subtitles, so when i saw the theme song is lyrically a very bittersweet love song, a person trying to stop themselves from feeling the depth of their emotions but unable to resist the passion of love… OHHH… i just thought that was so fucking genius. now every time the theme plays in the show, it’s so obvious how it almost always plays over moments of love, whether it’s people in love with each other or remembering their love for laura… “falling, falling, are we falling in love?” i swear i’ve listened to it a dozen times now, i think it’s such a beautiful song, and i’m so excited to keep watching + listening to the podcast!! thank you so much ESPECIALLY for shouting out the log lady bits, which i (as a beginner) had no idea existed!!! learning about that felt like realizing you should be watching the “next time on” bits at the end of each episode of revolutionary girl utena. it’s so cool how there’s more story and interpretation literally OUTSIDE of the show, and now i’m excited to watch the log lady before starting every episode :))
