Mint Chok-lit - Inks

The inks finally came together on this after some trial and error (That tree is the bane of my existence, for example).  These are less detailed inks since I plan on colouring this.  I'm definitely thinking something 'snowy' and a little cold.

I think the one part that will take a fair amount of time is the signage.  I'm not sure if I'll be using Affinity Designer to set everything and then just skew each into perspective, or just painting something out in Clip Studio for each and then skewing them.  The thing with some signs in the larger and more magic-rich towns like Cadwyllan (A major Lorrnathi city in northern Lathreadon) is that some have magical 'effects' put upon them.  Sort of how Tokyo has a lot of lights, though nowhere near as prolific as the signage there is.  It entirely depends on the wealth of the shop owner though, as permanent magic of that kind isn't exactly cheap.

Magic really does have a way to veer things off into interesting territory.  Be it signs, or how it affects the health and livelihoods of people.  When an assassin can change their look with a spell, or a street can light itself with drift-globes it has a chain reaction on everything else.

But for this picture, at least, Mint-chocolate is at least readily available without spellcraft.  Even if a certain bear thinks it's the work of magic.

Magic in everyday life is a subject that several authors and comic artists have tackled. I find the concept fascinating; what a contrast to our prosaic, him-drum lives.

Magic in society is something to consider. From clerical magic making famines near impossible, to it making firefighting effective. Technology is not just the stuff we have laying around, it is the first time you modify a rock, or use an object as a tool. So magical technology will take the place of things we take for granted. Cities on Thindacarulle have everything from the simple, the magical streetlights as you mention, to the elaborate, the Dragonwalls that can guard a city from flying threats, like dragons. As I have light magic as readily available and cheap you are going to see lit signs. Street lighting varies from dedicated poles to the corners of buildings having the spell cast on them. Artistic magicians might put animated lights in the pavement. There is a special decanter of endless water called the firehose bottle that has one setting, lots and lots. It usually pulls water not from the elemental plane of water, but a nearby lake or river. The sole purpose is to to put out fires. It is built with a variable nozzle. I also have magical pumps that give a city running water. Sewage is easy, gravity handles that. But waste treatment can be magical or simple. And as always girls not over concerned about clothing a plus. Signs like you have indicate also speak of common literacy. It is the edges of ideas. No one is going to spend money on elaborate written signs if the average person cannot read them. So the next question is why is literacy common? The simple answer is the printing press. When that technology was invented books became something anyone could have and reading and writing were no longer esoteric skills only priests and clerks possessed.

Such a heartwarming scene. Very cool. Thank you for putting up with trees and sharing this with us! Very awesome. I can't wait to see it colored. Happy Holidays!
