Thoughts on AI Illustrations
Added 2024-10-04 21:34:34 +0000 UTCHi Gang! I have a question: What are your thoughts on AI-generated art and illustrations? As you know, Mavrip prides itself on supporting our artistic brethren. Thanks to your patronage, we've commissioned graphic artists like Silverpathfinder, Magmaman, MonoManiac, and Asaragi (among others) to enhance our written words and will continue to do so moving forward.
HOWEVER, there's no denying that AI is efficient and improving rapidly from a quality standpoint. So much so that I'm considering its utilization here. Obviously, Mavrip fiction will always be 100% human-generated (for better or worse!), but an AI component would enable us to add illustrations to projects that would be difficult (if not impossible) otherwise, such as our weekly/bi-weekly serial stories, where the rapid production schedule precludes the necessary back-and-forth that goes into any commission, or on our darker fiction, where ethical qualms could get in the way of realizing our vision. At some point, AI may even allow us to produce short films around our fiction that would otherwise be too costly (and likely lead to divorce from my wife).
This isn't great, but it will give you an idea of the possibilities in the not-too-distant future:

Voting No. Honestly, as productive at pumping out content as it is, AI feels like the slow death of the internet. Any normalization and contributions toward it just sucks the passion out of creating in the long term. Huge no. Don't support AI.

There are artists who can produce real work quickly, or illustrations can lag and give a good reason to re-read. What I'm saying is just summon Kirby's Ghost and put him to work.
