Behind the scenes: creating the "You're Going to Get Fat" narration

Here's a little something extra for our most enthusiastic supporters.  

One of the more interesting but challenging facets of getting this story--or any similar kinky erotic fiction--narrated is finding someone who is both willing and able to do the voicework. All else equal, my preference would be to have a narrator who truly "gets" the appeals of this stuff. After spending quite a bit of time plying my personal contacts within the "feedism" community for potential female vocalists, though, I eventually instead opted to commission a narrator experienced with the craft but unfamiliar with our kinky interests. This was a compromise in favor of expedience. 

As a consequence of that choice, I was faced with the task of communicating to Kim (who remained thoroughly professional and accommodating every step of the way) what the heck is up with this weirdly perverted little story so that she could deliver the lines in a satisfying manner.

Below are the two juiciest bits of voice acting "direction" I gave Kim towards achieving that end. Kim's questions are in bolded text and my responses to each follow in italics. If nothing else, I think this gives some insight into how I view the story and its psychological underpinnings. It might also lend a bit of extra flavor and fun when listening to Kim's reading, knowing what sentiments she had mind.

In terms of voice, I’m looking for an appealing young adult female "neutral" American accent. I don't have a specific example in mind to model it after, but certainly nothing highly exaggerated by vocal quirks, specific regional dialect, etc. The first-person narrator character here probably sounds like a fairly typical American high school age (mid-to-late teens) gal--though one who's been going through a quite humbling role-reversal with her "tubby" younger sister.

What specific guidelines do you want me to follow?

This story is, technically, “adult content” in that it is erotica (of a fetishy sort: feedism/weight gain). 

The audience will be especially drawn to descriptions of weight, body shape, softness, etc. Trigger words like "fat," "flabby," "swollen," "protrude," "jiggling," etc. will be important to hit clearly and perhaps even subtly emphasize--but not to the extent that it makes speech patterns feel odd. 

In addition to the physical descriptions, themes of hubris, humiliation, and internal conflict are also key elements of appeal for the audience. To the extent the narration can evoke a sense of those sentiments within the first-person narrator character as she describes the unexpected, unwilling, and unwelcomed softening of her formerly enviably fit and flawless physique, that'll go a long way. Yet alongside those sentiments there is also a streak perverse tension within the narrator character that she's struggling to comprehend: despite being ashamed that she's allowed herself to gain weight, and of the changes the extra pounds are causing to her body, she's also finding herself inexplicably aroused by those very same feelings of shame and physical changes. Consciously, she wants to be thin and fit and fashionable like she's always been. But at a more primal, subconscious level, her libido has discovered it craves that self-destructive, humiliating, thrill of "ruining" her figure, bursting out of her clothes, become soft, weak, and vulnerable.

It probably makes sense for the narration tone to progress from self-assured at the beginning to a bit awkward, embarrassed, and self-conscious at the end. 

The role-reversal dynamic between the narrator and her younger sister is part of that same shift, evolving from the narrator's initial unquestioned cocky dominance to a quietly reeling and alarmed uncertainty and meekness by the time of their final conversation.
