"Patrons create an item/mechanic" Voting
Added 2019-08-15 07:10:15 +0000 UTCTime to vote for a new Cogmind item/mechanic! This patron goal was reached earlier in the Beta 9 dev cycle, as described here when I put out the call for concepts. The requirements and other details are described in that thread so I won't repeat them here, but it's now time to actually decide.
(Note: A shorter version of this post was made a few hours earlier, but I'd accidentally left out some of the options, so it was nuked and if you voted in that window of time you'll have to do so again, sorry! There are now even more mechanics to choose from.)
Below is a longer description of each option where applicable (including its original sponsor), to keep the actual voting list concise (you will probably be able to find even more related discussion in the original thread's comments):
- Protoype energy cannon with AOE impact and knockback [Terminus]
- Prototype launcher similar to the FLK in some ways, but instead causes target to disappear for a time then reappear in the same position later [Happylisk]
- "Siege" Treads with a special mode that confers more combat bonuses but further reduces/prohibits mobility [muxecoid]
- Gravity Well consumable battery-operated item dropped to attract hostiles (or perhaps all robots other than Cogmind) within a wide radius, with other effects like damaging them [Amphouse]
- Some form of time dilation, for example a consumable item or resource-intensive utility [Joel Collins]
- Multiple penetrating guided kinetic gun [AR]
- Junk launcher for throwing spare parts at targets [Johnson Lin]
- Chain EM energy cannon that jumps between hostiles near target [Lee]
- Mechanic for improving the effects of installed traps, like increased damage, greater trigger range, more? [KernelPanic]
- Decoy drones for explicitly drawing fire from hostiles [Michael Powers]
- 0b10 disguise preventing hostile 0b10 bots from noticing you when they otherwise would. "Loses integrity per turn in view of a hostile. Does not work on bots already tracking you. Hitting a hostile or being run into by a hostile will get you spotted." [zxc]
- Drone constructor add-on that helps rebuild drones for attached bays without associated active drones [8FPSBOSSFIGHT]
- Disposable boosters, a "utility that gives flying state, high propulsion and momentum bonus while consuming matter, once activated. It only can be stopped by detaching which destroys booster. " [Via]
- Robot repair kit for restoring broken bots to functionality [Joshua]
- Deflective armor capable of redirecting directed energy attacks [Qingyao Sun]
Everyone is encouraged to vote for more than one option, though the item with the most votes will make it into Beta 9. Voting is open and ongoing until I start implementing whatever has the highest vote count. On the off chance that it turns I can't actually implement the vote winner for now, we'll have to go with the second.
As a reminder, a quote the most relevant part of the guidelines to give you some more context:
As for specifics, an item or hack could be a common one, or some special prototype/unique ability only found in special areas or conditions. If appropriate, technically an item-related mechanic could result in multiple items if having tiers is feasible or even necessary.
Balance will be maintained, though! Where this new content appears will depend a lot on what it is. E.g. a very powerful item will be hard to obtain, whereas something very balanced will be easily available every run.
Comments
Remember you can vote for more than one, and really should since only casting a single vote lessens your influence over the voting. Like someone voting for three options essentially has three times as much influence. Sure if you vote for *everything* then you're just canceling out the effect of your votes entirely, but somewhere in the middle makes sense--vote for everything you want to see in the game since it's the *overlap* in votes that determines the winner!
