Episode 179 - We Sail to Athens! And Explore the Fabulous Historical City and Acropolis!
Added 2024-01-15 19:46:27 +0000 UTCWe Sail through huge ship anchorages to the beautiful Athens! We are in the middle of a crazy heatwave, but decide its our only opportunity to explore the city so Nicky and the kids go anyway! We want to see the ACROPOLIS! Over the centuries, the Acropolis was many things: a home to kings, a citadel, a mythical home of the gods, a religious center and now for us a wonderful tourist attraction. It has withstood bombardment, massive earthquakes and vandalism yet still stands as a reminder of the rich history of Greece. We use the open top bus and queue for hours and hours to experience these magical sights and to share it with you guys, nearly getting heat stroke in the process! We finally take refugee in the National Gardens, entwined with the parliament buildings/old palace, with its ancient aqueduct dating back to the 6th c BC and its astonishing gardens originally partly designed by a queen with a massive array of hundreds of old and new trees, plants and shrubs, making this a magical place to hang out and enjoy this bustling European city.

glad you liked our little day of exploring Athens, Nice to mix it up a bit in-between sailing, it really was shockingly hot that day though, Beau was nearly sick and I was so beyond exhausted by the time we got back to Pickle! Great memories though, it was lots of fun π

It was crazy the summer of 2023. and you went from Faliro to Syntagma Sq. then up the Acropolis (!), then back down to Syntagma {trnsl= Constitution sq} and across the street to the Gardens !! quite the trip... thank God for the trees at the end. I'm afraid you missed a part of the Gardens, where there is a small zoo. a couple of beautiful peacocks, some monkeys, different types of goats, rabbits... a few animals. I know you would love to see the peacocks. summer in Greece, you need lots of water and sun-lotion from 1000am to 1800pm ;-) Thanks for sharing your adventures.
