Canada's Drag Race 5 Premiere Exclusive Live TWO HOUR Mega Reaction Megamix
Added 2024-11-23 03:00:04 +0000 UTCI've been working with my reaction editor to improve the sound quality for my reaction videos! I hope this is a marked improvement for everyone's ears! Also, I had a really great time with this premiere. First, we discuss updates and then quickly take a look at the promo looks for this season. Finally we watch and react to the premiere of CDR S5, taking some field trip deep dives into NewFoundLand, the Sixties Scoop, and Nicki Minaj. Oh, and I'm psychic. Enjoy!

Ok. I'm here for BQ to learn how to actually pronounce Newfoundland. Also, Newfoundland was colonized first (by the Portuguese), so in terms of colonization names, it makes sense it goes first. Now, if we're talking about the Indigenous peoples of Canada, then I don't know.

2024-12-14 06:19:00 +0000 UTCNew Patreon member here. First post. I’m glad that you were able to cut back. A 16 hour shift is inhumane. I’m embarrassed to admit that I never thought about the amount of work that went into these videos. NOw that I think about it, your videos are way more polished than others and come out more quickly. I’m sorry I didn’t appreciate them more before, but I def do now. Thank you!

2024-12-14 05:26:04 +0000 UTCI’m obsessed with Bussy’s beef with Newfoundland and Labrador

2024-12-01 17:41:46 +0000 UTCLove the reactions to quirky Canadianisms! 😂 We definitely have a knack for pronouncing things oddly, dropping syllables and spaces. For example, “Newfoundland” is pronounced more like “New-fun-lund” (said quickly), and the locals are affectionately called “Newfies,” with their own distinct culture and language. Calgary becomes “Cal-gree,” Toronto is “Ter-ana,” and you can tell if someone’s French or English by how they pronounce Quebec: “Kwuh-bec” vs. “Kay-bec.” We also take great pride in Indigenous place names—about half of our provinces and countless cities have Indigenous origins. In many Indigenous cultures, it’s common to call non-familial older women “Auntie,” which is such a beautiful tradition, and why you hear it on the show. Canada, like other colonial nations, is working through reconciliation with its past—acknowledging the genocide and oppression of Indigenous peoples. While there’s resistance, as seen globally, a growing majority understand the importance of learning from our history and celebrating the cultures that colonialism once tried to erase. Progress means showing up, working together, and uplifting these voices. I hope you visit! You’d love the diversity here—whether it’s cities like Montreal or Vancouver, or the Rockies or the Maritimes for the beautiful scenery. Carissa & Sarah gave some great suggestions, and we’d happily adopt Bussy as a Canadian. After all, the drag scene here is fierce!

2024-11-28 02:59:11 +0000 UTCThere is a former Pit Crew member named Megui Yeillow on España Season 4, which is airing right now! She won a challenge and made it to the top 6 before getting eliminated. I think the finale of that season comes out soon.

2024-11-27 21:19:45 +0000 UTCHave you seen the Broadway show “Come From Away”? It’s about 9-11 and what happened when all the planes were grounded mid flight. A bunch of them were sent to Newfoundland and the passengers had to stay there for several days until planes were allowed to fly. It covers the passengers and the kind people of Newfoundland who took care of them. It was broadcasted on Broadway.com during the pandemic. I saw it on tour. It is amazing. And you can learn how to pronounce it 😂😂😂 Love to see you back and engaged.

2024-11-24 20:35:59 +0000 UTCso glad to have you enjoying the episode with me, jesse. you are right about the 37.50 thing lending some more justification to why she's so upset, which is totally criminal (though not unheard of for queens just starting off) by the way! the low pay for live performance was a big reason that I just kinda never did it again after the pandemic happened. i am truly lucky to have found my audience online. (thank you for being here!)

2024-11-24 20:33:58 +0000 UTCThis was SUCH a fun watch. Seeing you react to what brooklyn said after you just said it was top notch. Also you figuring out Newfoundland and Labrador is a place hahah. In response to Tara - she did mention that she only gets paid 37.50 when she performs in St Johns so that is where she is coming from when she is crying in untucked. She doesn't make nearly as much as the other queens.

2024-11-24 06:07:23 +0000 UTChi bussy! re: sixties scoop (as you're gathering): this wasn't a system put into place in a place of caring for children. it was a huge colonialist project (think in line with residential school institutions!) designed to assimilate (to put it extremely lightly) Indigenous peoples (children specifically) into eurocentric canadian "culture," "society," etc. and the targeting of Indigenous mothers is very much still a thing. things like birth alerts (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birth_alert) have disproportionately and systemically targeted Indigenous mothers, so it's tied to the sixties scoop (and that's why provinces have done away with them semi-recently) i'm a phd candidate and i study canadian literature/history in the 19th century, so i'm very familiar with these kinds of policies, programs, etc. and if you're interested in learning a little more, you should also look up the pass system. it was more of a thing in the prairies than the coasts, i believe, but is something you also might find interesting/could potentially find similarities with in american history (ps: as a saskatchewan native, your pronunciation killed me. think "sask-atch-ew-ehn" -- not "aah" like "say ah," but more of a "when" or "win" sound haha. and "regina" is like ruh-g-eye-na hahaha -- not regina george, unfortunately. but i live) AND for cities to visit: - montreal (non-negotiable) - saskatoon SK (i know the prairies seem small town but yxe is very local business-y, very artsy, huge progressive hub in conservative province (you'll get it as a texas person!)) - quebec city - halifax - vancouver - whitehorse! (your husband is certainly in montreal)
