Ahhh Mrs Slocumbe and her ubiquitous pussy! I miss the bawdiness of 70s British sitcoms! Did you get One Foot in the Grave as well? Victor Meldrew’s iconic ‘I don’t believe it’ line was everywhere throughout the 90s. Love that you have to think about dropping the u from words like colour. Sounds like PBS was essential viewing, all I really know about it is that it gave us Sesame Street, which I loved watching as a kid!

Yeah Ruth Michael is correct, believe it or not I grew up with Mrs. Slocumbe, Hyacinth Bucket (Bouquet!) and Basil Fawlty in my home. My brother and I will still ask each other when we approach the other on their own.... Are you free...? (Right look, left look) Yes, I'm free. My cousin and I always looked at Ab Fab as the Ghost of Christmas Future and I read so many UK books as a kid that I have to consciously spell words like colour in American. We had access - you just have to be old and grown up watching PBS.

Michel, yes anything pre-internet boom is only guaranteed ingrained in the minds of those that lived through it, but nostalgia is playing a great part in bringing a lot of content from our youth into the forefront again. It makes sense that kids of today are looking forward and making their own icons and experiences, living totally in the past wouldn’t be fair to them, but it is nice when they learn about key individuals and events that shaped the world they now inhabit. I remember spending time with my grandparents listening to them talk about WW2 and gaining an appreciation for Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, and reading my Uncle’s old DC comics from the 50s/60s, but that wasn’t particularly cool for a kid in the 80s.
