2025-11-11 02:48:46 +0000 UTCMae Whitman was in two of my favorite shows growing up (in this show as Ann and in ATLA as Katara), and I had no idea until years later. I love Michael's face after George Michael tells him about Ann's "mayonegg". Starla's bruises on her arm look like a hand print, as if she were grabbed very forcefully; it's kind of a dark joke, suggesting she'd recently been physically abused by a partner or handler or pimp. The "Mission Accomplished" banner at the ribbon cutting is another reference to the Iraq War. The banner was featured in an infamous 2003 speech/victory lap by George W. Bush after the initial invasion of Iraq when the US and co. overthrew Saddam's regime. But of course the collapse of the regime triggered an all-out civil war in Iraq. I think this episode aired about a year after that speech. Some callbacks: - In season 1 after Lucille Bluth says it's creepy Buster is dating Lucille 2 (since she changed his diapers as a baby), Buster says something like, "So that's why she didn't look surprised." She'd already seen that his "reproductive organ" looks like a lobster tail without its shell. - The caption on the picture of what George Sr. and Kitty's hypothetical child would look like says the picture was courtesy of "Mommy What Will I Look Like?" which was one of Lindsay's failed businesses mentioned in 1x22. - I couldn't tell if you caught it, but George Sr. not knowing how to say "brother" in Spanish is a reference to the whole "hermano" story line with Marta. - Lindsay and Michael's interaction after she tells Michael about her "boyfriend" ("What's wrong with him?" "Nothing's wrong with him! He is homeless...") mirrors Michael and GOB's interaction after he tells GOB about Maggie Lizer (Julia Louis Dreyfus) in season 1 ("What's wrong with her?" "Nothing's wrong with her! She is blind..."). - The poster for the "gritty personal drama" Tom Jane is filming says it's from the directors of "Dangerous Cousins." Last season, George Michael and Maeby tried to sneak into "Les Cousins Dangereux." - At one point Tobias camouflages himself in front of an ad for Cloudmir vodka. Lindsay briefly worked as a promoter for Cloudmir last season when they hired that PR woman who wanted to date Michael.
