Jim is sat in the centre of everyone so he can dip in and out of most conversations with one liners, or give a glace to the camera. He doesn't need a reason/plot to contribute to an episode. Mark doesn't even work in the same office, which isn't used as often . The writers need reasons to have a city planner constantly turning up to things. They clearly saw the issue and replaced him with auditors/city managers who can turn up with a purpose.

2024-12-28 02:59:18 +0000 UTCTo me it always felt like at first they wanted him to be similar to Jim from The Office but without the romantic aspects; then, they must have felt that wasn't working and tried to make him more like Jim by having him become the serious boyfriend to Ann which worked even worse. After that it felt like they just decided this show didn't need a Jim and they just stopped trying with his character.

2024-12-27 19:51:45 +0000 UTCThe only interesting thing about the Brandamowitz character is how, when you rewatch the show, in episode 1 you're like "oh yeah, I forgot that guy existed", and by the middle of season 2 you're like "god, how long is this guy on the show?" He is the most forgettable character ever. By the end of season 4, you'll be like "who the fuck is Mark Brandamowitz?"

2024-12-27 16:00:38 +0000 UTCJust in defense of Mark's character here (a VERY unpopular thing to say, trust me, I know): I read somewhere fuckin eons ago that the actor either chose to leave the show or agreed to them writing his character out because he felt like he didn't know who "Mark Brendanawicz" was supposed to be. He said his character felt directionless and that he was given a very loose understanding on what exactly they were looking for from him. That being said: Mark sucked.

2024-12-27 05:10:44 +0000 UTCThe reason season 3 only had 16 episodes was because Amy Poehler got pregnant right after season 2 finished filming. So to accommodate her maternity leave, they filmed the first 6 episodes ahead of schedule and reduced the number of episodes.
