i haven't seen up to this point yet but if they did a pandemic storyline...yikes. i always cringed when watching svu or superstore and seeing the characters in masks. not for any particular debate about anything but because tv is meant to feel like an escape. i don't wanna be seeing news stories constantly of horrific things and then try to put on my escape shows and be bogged down with it there too. i know sunny likes to go for hot button topics. but to put it into a bit of my own perspective, we had a horrific hurricane a few years back. horrible. homes destroyed. neighborhoods entirely under water. things shut down for weeks. all of the news was footage of beloved places entirely underwater and footage of families and animals stranded in floods. now imagine seeing that and needing to change the channel and put on an escape and the show you put on does a whole arc about the flood and how awful it is. it just feels heavy handed and if this is the arch they went with i'm probably going to be skipping that as i play catch up

Another thing that bugged me about the Ireland arc with how they shoehorned the waitress in there. OK fine at first it’s just a coincidence she happen to be on the same set as Dee. Fine. Then she’s in the same random town in the middle of nowhere? Then she just happens to be walking by the bog where Dee is? It’s just lazy writing. There were definitely funny moments sprinkled throughout. A lot of it also felt heavy-handed like another commenter here said.

Hey guys been MIA for a while but had to leave this comment that I know everyone’s gonna pile on and give me shit but it must be said.
At the height of the pandemic in Ireland, the county with the highest vaccination rate around 99%, Waterford, also had the highest transmission rates in the country. Numerous studies, including one by Harvard looked at populations around the world, and found the same thing over and over. Now we know it doesn’t stop the spread, but even back then, based on the logic of what we were told - that it was effective at stopping death and serious illness… that should mean that the individual is protected so if Frank was unvaccinated, how did that kill Charlie’s dad who was?
That makes no sense. And they made Frank represent the strawman kooky conspiracy theorist, representing all the people that had legit questions about a treatment that was rushed out and forced on people by very shady corporations (with the government. We know has no actual oversight because of the incestuous relationship between the companies and the FDA, who get most of their funding from them). Making it about magnets and whatever the fuck he was talking about. The pharmaceutical industry have a long documented history of knowing a product is killing people, but leaving it on the market, because whatever profit they’re making supersedes the fines they have to pay and in this case they had immunity. Danny DeVito is an activist he should know better. It was just so sleazy like someone from Pfizer slip that into the script. Everything else about the episode I actually enjoyed. Charlie’s dramatic bid at the end I felt was way better than macs Gay dance. But it really stings that my favorite show didn’t have balls when it mattered they went along with everyone else because Rob just listens to NPR and doesn’t realize the same corporate interests control both liberal and conservative media. That was how they manipulated all of us to hate our neighbor. It became a left or right tribal thing, so if you had any questions that means you’re a Trump supporter. That’s so nefarious. I’m sure many of you will disagree, but I think as time goes on this viewpoint will be more recognized and that part of the episode will not age well

I respect what they were trying to do with this episode and arc more than the execution itself. I think they could've executed it better and it could've been funnier, but I really like what they attempted with giving Charlie a meaningful arc and a heartfelt episode.
I also almost expect them to pull a reverse card on us at some point and say that Frank is still Charlie's dad because they never did a DNA test, lol.

if you don't commit to a full rewatch it'd be neat to go through each season and pick out favourites maybe? 16 is gonna be fun either way !

I don’t care for this season, but especially don’t like this episode. It’s just so heavy handed.

I actually really love this episode. Gives Charlie in particular a chance to act outside his normal bounds

This season is kind of a weird one... I enjoy a lot of it, but the 4 episode arc is kind of different. IMO 16 is an improvement :)
