2018-10-01 11:38:46 +0000 UTCEighth Grade didn't have balls. It's an everyman (girl) film that doesn't go beyond normal experience. Normal, normal, normal, average, average, average. A really good film would have shown normal experience as the set up and then development it into something extraordinary (traumatic). The filmmaking was there and the writer was capable, clearly, but there was a decision to pull the punch and that this was good enough and everyone's lapped it up which = $$$ for them
