As an animal activist, here is some info regarding animal cafes and sanctuaries. Cat cafes were started in Japan and became very famous. The US has some too. The one in Austin, TX uses cats from the Humane Society to help them get adopted. I don't know about Japan or Korea. There are certain animals that do ok in a cafe setting, but sadly, Korea has some that aren't good for the animals. Monkey's and Owls are two that I've seen. These animals should not be used in a pet setting. They are both dangerous. We see so many situations where people have monkeys as pets and the animal bites or pulls off fingers and etc. I think you were looking for Ostrich or Emu when you were talking about the birds coming in the cars with their beaks. The Ostrich is not friendly and depending on it's temperament it can do some serious damage. As far as sanctuaries, a few things to think about before going to one. Are the animals doing tricks for you, do they look healthy, are they tied up most of the day, do they stand only on cement or do they have soft ground or bedding, and lastly are they breeding the animals? A true animal sanctuary is where an orphaned, abandoned or tortured animal goes to live out the rest of their life with some sort of dignity. That being said, Korea is starting to move away from eating certain animals and working towards educating their youth about preservation. There is a great organization in Korea called Kara who are making big strides in helping protect animals. I wrote a children's book on preserving elephants and was blessed to have a korean artist do the illustrations. I'll be going to Korea and Japan this fall to read to children and teach about how we can help not just the elephant survive but other wild animals who are endangered. Sorry this is so long, it is my passion. Thanks
