Demons Within Update 8 devlog: Steady progress, unexpected additions

It's time for another devlog where I dump my thoughts about how the work is going under the excuse of keeping you all updated on the progress. x) Well, I guess it serves that purpose too!
Since we're in the middle of development, today I want to talk a bit about how it's going, a little bit about what'll be in Update 8, and about some changes and additions that might be coming in it that were new even to me. One thing at a time!
The Content
As you all know, Update 8 follows the story a few days after the major events of Update 7. The repercussions it has on Resnick has led him to make a certain decision, and we'll see how that thread evolves. Or, at least, what happens around it.
Update 8 is the start of a few things, though. As most of you already know by now, we have two new big characters showing up in Update 8, with full new sprites and whatnot, and their presence and role changes a lot. Most of Update 8 will cover things revolving around them and, as such, especially after so much action in Update 7, this update won't be too... how to put it. Thrilling?
At least not in a physical, action-y way! For people that enjoy lore, character development and just overall seeing our beloved characters going around and doing their things, it'll be a treat. We haven't had that in a while, especially with the tangent of Update 7.5, so I hope people will enjoy that. We'll see some more of Sam, Edwin and Ludwig and Captain Garret. The Captain has been especially coveted, so the opportunity of having a one on one conversation with him if doing things in a certain way is also something that I hope will please people. x)
The Development
Things are going as smoothly as they can. The writing for this update is almost finished and, surprisingly, it's already at close to 13k words. It's looking like it'll be an update on the larger size writing wise, which always makes things a bit tougher for me, but I'll still try to finish it within the two month schedule or close to it! Another small hurdle to that was the new addition I mentioned, which I didn't expect...
Basically, on the last scene we'll see in this update, I deliberated a lot about how to make it as best as it can be. There were some options, but none of them sat quite right with me, and at the end of the day, I figured that the best way to really portray this scene as it should be would be... with a CG.
I was reluctant to do it at first because CGs are expensive both time-wise and budget-wise and I still have a small handful of scenes from the past that I'd love to CG-up at some point. We're getting to it as Demons Within grows and it becomes possible, as well as when we can manage Blain's time between working on new content and old content. This CG would be a bit different, a bit simple, but important to properly put the feeling of the scene that it should have. I'm still working with Blain to verify if it'll be possible to get this CG made and done before the deadline of the update! Worst case scenario, we might push this scene to the next update, as adding it now IS ambitious and might end up delaying it by a week or two, which would be unfortunate!

Lore and world building, yes please and what could that CG be in update 9 👀 🤍 Thank you for your hard work and creative dedication to your project. Absolutely my favorite cast of characters all around and Resnick is such a bean, I can’t wait to see more of them! Blain and you make such a great team for this project 😌
