The Wild One - Chapter Ten + Epilogue (Final)

Well, here it is. The moment y'all have been waiting for. The final chapter for The Wild One. Are you excited? 'Cause I sure am.

Okay, just a few quick things and you can dive right in and finally finish the ballad of Max and Tug. For everyone that was wondering about the whole story being released as one document, I plan on doing that sometime next week. I also have a few other goodies that I'll be posting in this coming week or so, including the playlist and a glossary for all those crazy words I made up.

Alright guys, that's it. Stay safe, be good to each other, and as always, happy reading!

Comments

So I don't like leaving comments to dispute anyone's thoughts because at the end of the day art is subjective, even my own, but I do want to point out something really quick. The thing about Wyatt is not that he's a rapist, but rather a sadist. He delights in causing harm to others in whatever way will bring the most pain. So it's less of, all villains are rapists -- which isn't a point I would ever agree with -- but rather, Wyatt is a horrible person who likes to do fucked up things to people and for Max this is what he chose. Whether he would have gone through with it or killed her with just the thought of that fate is undetermined because of where the story went but I just feel like this is something that needed to be clarified. You don't have to like his character but understand that the motives behind that particular development were thought out and by no means meant to come across as cheap. Again, this isn't meant to change your opinion but rather to clarify my stand point in writing the scene.

I am gonna start by saying, that I really enjoyed The Wild One. A good fantasy story, in an interresting setting. While the 3 countries didn’t get the biggest world building, the details of the Trajost and the Matu certainly makes up for it. But this is a Kelryn story, which means amazing characters, so that is what I am gonna talk about. Let us start with the one that dissappointed me: Hawk. Revealing that Hawk was an outsider like Max was such a good twist, and nothing happend from it. The entire point of it is probably, that the past doesn’t matter, but it could have been great to know more about her. But let’s leave it at that, and talk about the villian: Wyatt. Everything about Wyatt made him a menacing threat. He was a real villian, and that’s why it dissappointed me that you went for the “all villians are rapists” angle with him in the end. Rape is a serious thing, and the sign of a true real life piece of waste, but in a fictional story, where anything can happend, making your villian a rapist, because they are the villian, is just...dull. I’m saying this, because Wyatt trying to rape Max felt so out of character. He fells more like the arrogant hunter, that makes his prey think they have a chance, only to rip that chance away from them. He plays with his targets until they piss him off, and in the end, Max had really pissed him off, so why he didn’t just kill her, I don’t understand. If making him a rapist was to make him more of a threat, then it wasn’t needed. He could fight toe-to-toe with Tug. Speaking of Tug, she is amazing, and for the first good part of the story, my favorite character. The Tarzan and Jane story is old, but somehow it never gets old, and when the Tarzan is a shapeshifting trans, with at stubborn, but caring personality, it really becomes a fresh take on that old story structure. While I won’t say Max and Tug are your best couple (*cough, cough* Rebecca and Emily *cough, cough*), they had an amazing chemistry, that felt like....Max and Tug. Can’t really describe it any differently. But let us end with Max. The longer the story went on, the more Max became my favorite character. The noble girl that wants to do the best for her people, and through a journey into a dangerous forrest, and meeting the love of her life, she becomes a person able to do the best for her people. One of my favorite scenes is where the king of Braemor gains respect for Max, showing not only that he was not as bad as he seemed, but also showed how much Max had grown. I don’t think the pre-Trajost Max could have gained the king of Braemor’s respect. The Wild One is a really good story, and I hope that the next time you make a fantasy story, we return to the Broken Coast. May you have a lovely day, Kelryn.

I loved it! Heart warming, funny, dramatic. This story had it all. I enjoyed watching Max and Tug evolve and grow because of their relationship with each other. I can imagine their three little ones with the stubbornness of Max and the fearless, no nonsense attitude of Tug. There will never be a dull moment in that house. Thank you for sharing this set of your kids with us.

This chapter has left me with a warm feeling and I can rest happy knowing that my favourite characters get the ending they deserve. I even warmed to Crow, him and Talon made me smile. I have enjoyed this story so much, it's my personal favourite of yours and Tug and Max are brilliant creations, Tugs strength and subtle humour has made her my overall favourite of your wonderful characters, you wrote a truly well rounded character with a depth that made her leap off the page at me. I hope that writing them has been as fulfilling for you as reading them has been for me. Thank you Kelryn
