Sight-reading Masterclass + Workout
Added 2025-07-26 13:50:12 +0000 UTCSight-reading is the ability to play a piece of music from the tab/notation with little-to-no preparation and is an incredibly useful skill to have as a musician. The faster you can sight-read the quicker you can process and learn musical information, which can greatly increase your efficiency when it comes to learning new songs! It's also an absolutely essential skill if you plan to get into either session work or function work.
Sight-reading is something that I've continuously worked on over the years and have gotten to the point now where I can comfortably read 95% of standard guitar music (it only gets difficult if it's something out of my comfort zone or something that is particularly technically challenging).
So in today's lesson I give you some super useful tips you can use to improve your sight-reading, as well as an extensive 5 minute exercise that you can use to practice with! The exercise consists of 10 levels, starting very easy and getting progressively harder. Let me know how far you managed to get!
Good luck and don't forget to share your progress with everyone in the Discord server!

I can't remember if these were checked off in the video but some other maybe obvious but useful things are checking the tuning and checking the time Signature. Another useful thing of you have the notation and not just the tab is checking the key as it can help indicate what most of the notes should be.
