1 Minute Workout: Pentatonics
Added 2024-04-17 11:16:40 +0000 UTCI do believe it's that time again where we return to the popular "1 Min Workout" series, where I provide you guys with fun, short workouts focussed on a specific aspect of guitar. This time we're diving into the glorious world of the infamous pentatonic scale!
A pentatonic scale is a scale that consists of 5 notes, as opposed to 7 notes in regular heptatonic scales. Even though there are many different flavors of pentatonic scale, in our world of electric guitar the term "pentatonic scale" is usually used interchangeably with the "minor pentatonic scale" (the root, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 7th of the natural minor scale).
The poor ol' pentatonic scale is often given a bad rap by guitarists and is relegated to just a "basic beginner scale" for noobs. But I want to change your perspective on this awesome scale and show you just how damn versatile it can be!
Like always, I've structured this exercise in a "5 levels" format featuring licks of increasing difficulty; starting with basic Blues licks and going right through to some absolutely bonkers pentatonic shredding across the whole neck!
