How To Solo Over Chord Changes Like A Pro (Pt.1)
Added 2024-02-02 23:02:30 +0000 UTCFor January's bonus lesson vote you guys voted unanimously in favor of a masterclass on how to effectively solo over chord changes - and I'm proud to announce it's now here!
This is a BIG topic with a hell of a lot of ground to cover, so I thought it best to split it up into 2 videos. In this 1st instalment we cover this fundamentals of chords, chord progressions and why exactly it's so important to be able to identify and target chord tones in your soloing (as well as how to start easily implementing this).
I've provided 2 backing tracks for you guys to practice the concepts mentioned in the video - have fun!
In the 2nd instalment we're gonna be covering some more advanced concepts and heavily expand on what we've established in this video.
Good luck and don't forget to share your progress with everyone in the Discord server!

Merry Christmas, Bradley! I just joined your course. I've been playing guitar since I was 16; I'll be 50 in two months. My whole life I've been playing by ear and memorizing patterns while procrastinating about learning theory. So while I can play Malmsteen and Synyster Gates solos, improvising is unchartered water for me. Last week I played Christmas carols with teacher colleagues before school started, and a lot of those songs use D7 and C7 and Gsus chords. Aside from the intro to "Jingle Bell Rock," I played rhythm and didn't attempt to solo because I couldn't figure out what to play over the chord changes. When I saw your video on YouTube I decided to take the plunge and finally learn without relying on memorizing patterns. It took me 33 years to figure out that I would not learn by osmosis. I have Hal Leonard's Little Black Book of Scales and I'm not sure whether to use the F harmonic minor scale or F pentatonic minor for this backing track. Which is the "correct" one? Thanks.

2024-04-18 07:50:03 +0000 UTCBrad, been a YouTube subscriber for a while now. This video popping up was what finally made me enroll in your course. For years I've wanted to learn how to do even basic soloing over chord progressions but every lesson I found was always "just play x scale that corresponds to the key of the chord progression". But that never made sense to me especially when it came to chord changes. This video was mindblowing that no other lesson I'd seen advised doing the same for just basic solo playing. You're a goddamn legend, brother!

2024-02-10 23:33:01 +0000 UTCThis helped me SO FN' MUCH, you have no idea. I jammed over your BT's. After a few days, I tried over "Seize the Day" chords during solo. I'm lacking of rythm now, but I definitely understand so much better which notes "highlight" the chord progression (basic F/C/Dm/Ab). I just can't wait to see part 2 to add more notes. Sorry my English is not the best but hey! Thanks for all :)

2024-02-03 14:58:42 +0000 UTCI've been a member for almost a couple months and this is one of the most impactful videos. From someone who knows nothing about soloing over chords this has helped a lot and ill try my best to get this into habit. Excited for part two! Sometimes its a bit hard to see the chord boxes on that guitar neck due to the lack of inlays!
