"Eugene's Trick Bag" (The Famous Crossroads Duel) Solo Lesson/Analysis

Eugene's Trick Bag from the movie Crossroads is easily the most iconic guitar duel of all time, but it's not only an awesome piece of music - it's actually also an AMAZING technical guitar workout! So I've taken the liberty of reworking the solo into a more Metal context so you can jam along and get the most out of this masterpiece. It's broken into 3 distinct sections, with each section focusing on a specific technique...

Section A is comprised of some sexy 6 string sweep arpeggios, with a mix of minor, dominant 7th and diminished shapes that are super intuitive and fun.

Section B features a fully alternate-picked Neoclassical passages that will truly put your picking to the test! It requires discipline to keep a steady and strict wrist or finger-driven picking technique so that you can nail the tricky string transitions. I also touch on the importance of pick-slanting in this section and how you can use it to improve your picking accuracy.

Section C serves as a great introduction to hybrid picking as this part features heavy use of it! I show you how you can combine your right hand fingers and the pick to execute licks across multiple strings much more efficiently.
