HOLY SHIT. They are legitimately setting up a civil war type of thing. Benders and Non-Benders. That is a really fascinating approach to the storyline that I didn't necessarily expect from this show, but it's fucking dope.
There are certainly parts of this show that I like more than ATLA. I still think it's more epic and cinematic in regard to the music and certain scenes.

But you nailed it, the hundred-year war was from Fire Lord Sozin’s greed and power, NOT fire bending itself. And it’s one of the main points of ATLA, by book 3 we are rly driven home the point that the pepl of the fire nation are just a product of corruption and they suffer from it too. They also explained it very well when we learned about Avatar Roku’s history with Sozin. Anyone is capable of great evil or great good.

Amon wants to rid of bending for all though, even those that use it for good. He makes no distinctions and thats what makes him so dangerous and wrong.
